I won't be offended if you say it is but I was brought up eating shepherds pie and love it! Beef, corn and potatoes! Whats not to love?? I brought some to work today and a fellow carpenter said "That stuff is gross! It's white trash.". I was shocked a carpenter would be above shepherds pie!
Shepherd's Pie is a traditional English dish dating back to at least 1791. To me, it's kind of an English meatloaf. If he thinks that is white trash, he should try my Grandmother's (God rest her soul) Dutch Lettuce. Go buy some kimchi at the local Korean market and eat that in front of him. It's a bit odiferous, but all it is is spicey pickled cabbage.
I've never heard of a type of food ever being called "white trash." So I googled white trash food and came across the following. Did your shepherds pie look like this? That was the title of the photo, "White trash shepherds pie."
I'd eat it. Drop your burger, mushroom soup, cheese sauce, some milk, and green beans in a baking dish. Cover in tots and sprinkle with cheese. Throw it all in the oven for 45 minutes. Perfect.
LMAO!! No, thats too funny!! I cant believe you googled white trash food and something came up. Wait.. its google, yes I can.
White Trash??? Maybe by Hooker's standards. Shepherds Pie is a man's meal, not some sissy Tofu and Vegetable creation. Now if you found a way to deep fry Shepherds Pie then you might be White Trash.
You just reminded me. I used to fry up some hamburger and then throw in a can of cream of mushroom. Not too bad. I also used to eat potted meat and vienna sausages. Those were the days.
Well, it certainly was a dish created by the lower class of people. I would not call it white trash food. The food that I consider white trash food is fast food.
I never did like it but my parents made it quite a bit when I was a kid. I think it would have been pretty good but they covered it with ketchup before cooking it.
My wifes family calls that tator tot hot dish. My kids love it but they want corn in it not green beans.
we have it regularly here, mainly because it is easy to make. I like it, we use ground turkey meat. The best part for me is I will have it for lunch several days that week, I cannot stand wasting food.
Now the SOS mom made when it was six of us kids and her might of been white trash but when we ate Shepards Pie that was like Tbone steak night. You tell our fellow carpenter you left the lid down for him in the Johnny so he could squat to piss.
Not a fan... but wouldn't call it white trash food. As someone suggested... white trash food would be McD's or some of those chains.
White trash food? I don't think so. Nothing is better after a day of muddin' than some warm sheppards pie washed down with a busch light while some Skynyrd is rocking the trailor.
We have that about once every 2 weeks, only we call it "tater tot cassarole".....burger, mixed veggies, cream of celery soup and tator tots...Mmmmmmm good !! White Trash ? I think not !
