Perceptions on these boards are so funny...........often times they are the EXACT opposite of the truth I can't even count how many times I have heard guys say stuff like this...............that guys that don't hunt in "big buck" states have a chip on their shoulder or let other guys who have it easier "get to them". What is the truth though?? Start a location thread and you will see which guys are actually the most "sensitive" about things like that Here's an example of what you will hear........ It's really funny to listen to countless guys ramble about how they are just going on about their deer's "score" for "informational" purposes only...........until someone brings up location and then for some reason they get all defensive, as if that score represents something more to them afterall.
Well, there is an entire post trying to figure that out right now. So far, there doesnt seem to be much agreement. I know I consider myself to be quite average.
One thing I will never have to do is squirm. If and when I am wrong, my ego allows me to admit it. Others, not so much.
Yea, I saw that............pretty funny actually that it took about 9 seconds for that cluster F to gravitate into a pissing contest about "skills"........which has nothing to do with the context we were discussing. The fact that guys can't even hear the word "average" without taking it as a slight to their "skills" should hopefully help you understand the point being made about how guys feel about deer "scores".
Well?? Are you saying that this thread went the way you thought it would?? C'mon man.........6 of the first 7 replies you got said hunters didn't care about scoring in their area. Considering the angle you were pushing it's a little hard to believe you were expecting that.
Didnt know what to expect. Thats why I asked. I will admit that across the country there are more areas than I would have thought that have little knowledge of scoring. Ofcourse we all base our opinions on what we are exposed to and I honestly dont believe I have ever met a bowhunter that didnt have a pretty firm grasp on score. And I have shared camps with a lot of guys over the years from all over the US. I am also happy to say that I have yet to meet a single one of them that has ever thought score was any measure of their ability. I would be interested to see how the responses would turn out if only asked of serious bowhunters. I really never did expect the two or three day a year deer hunter to have much interest in score unless he was hunting in "trophy" areas. I guess when I was speaking in generalities of "most" or "nearly all", I was thinking of avid bowhunters because that is what I relate to on this site. If the same question was posed to site members only I believe we would have far different results also. I will admit that the "average" or "below average" or "above average",(take your choice) deer hunter knows far less about score than I had given credit for. lol.
Well....lol....I'm not sure how (citing recent examples, here) you'd ever determine who these "serious bowhunters" were. But, it would probably (understatement) be an interesting thread! Fletch....I haven't walked a mile in your shoes. But, I personally don't feel this is a common theme....among those who consider THEMSELVES "serious bowhunters". Personal opinion.
I know you dont. You have had different experince with that than I have. I will admit that it would definitely rub me the wrong way too. But there are always going to be a few that think they are "above average". lol. I just ask that you not let your bad experience poison the well.
