I said that....because it's the way I honestly feel. You don't. Like I said way back there.......I'm OK with agreeing to disagree. Promise! I've said it before....and I'll say it again..... There are those among us who would assign a lack-of or inflated degree of hunter ability to the scores of the animals that hunter takes. I've seen it happen WAY too many times, to turn a blind eye towards it....and pretend it doesn't exist. I just find that to be......unfortuntate (on one hand) and highly inflammatory (on the other).
So what are you saying? Someone who takes good animals for their location, consistantly, does not have a higher ability than the other guys who do not? Just asking, not arguing.
I think he's saying hunters of the same ability in the south, will never get the same respect as hunters from the midwest/north(minus NY). He's not wrong at all, the average hunter is not going to think anything of a 100'' buck from NC, SC or Florida. Becasue they have no base to compare, because all they see are big bucks on TV. Let me add, who cares what other people think.
Why would that hunter from the south even attempt to compare his whitetail to a hunter from another regions whitetail anyhow? I do not compare my largemouth to bass from other regions. Seems kinda retarded to do so. I do not have to have others say my X pound bass is just as good as his XX pound bass. 1. Who cares and 2. does it really matter? Fish for what ya got
That is a very good question If you took two deer one from the north and one from the south, with two hunters behind each deer and a pole on which was the better deer, any guesses on who would win? Because the average hunter has limited knowledge of other locations, On this board we all pretty much know IMO. Meanv knows, when he states a 90'' deer is a dink, well it is a dink to him. That is just fine, Jeff has to realize it's just difference in language and not an attack. IMO meanv was not attacking anyone, just stating he thinks a 90'' deer is a dink, so what. My Grandfather has never shot a deer over 90'', I can tell you he would laugh meanv off and have a beer with him and talk hunting
Jeff calls a 90" buck a "shooter"......lol. When you've been afield as many times as I have......and you've seen <10 TOTAL bucks that fit this description.......your def. might mirror mine. And Gary.....I can cite you PLENTY of instances where those type comments were directed to me, personally (NOT "in general"). You and I both know I'm right. And a 1min. search would prove it.
In SLP it's a dink, IN Northen MI I am pulling the trigger. In 2008 I shot a buck that scored 101, it was a dink to me and still is a dink, I can honestly admit I should have let that buck walk, it was not hunted, but killed out of pure frustration. I have a 110'' buck from NLP I think it's a monster I shot it when i was on college, no money to mount it. I keep the rack next to my gear. Now I found a shed of 150'' buck in the same area I shot this one in 2006, but I am just avg bowhunter
wow, so all these posts against score the last few days seem to pretty much come down to a few guys being upset over how their skill level is perceived by other hunters?? I don't understand why they care.Seems to me the ego argument could go both ways . I live in Iowa, the wrong part for deer hunting I might mention. When people from these forums see Iowa they instantly expect me to be knee deep in 150s or better. I have never killed a 150, heck I've only ever seen maybe 2 or 3 in 20 yrs of hunting. I still don't care if people think I'm not a good deer hunter cause I'm from Iowa and don't have the monsters to show for it. I am not trying to impress anyone. Here is one that might make some of the southern guys laugh. My biggest largemouth was maybe 20" long and around 4.5 lbs. And I did a ton of braggin on him. My brother has a 19" bass on his wall that he caught when we were kids, we thought that thing was huge! .Now if I didn't tell you the measurements "score" how would you have any idea how big those little Iowa bass were?
I know a lot of people that talk "in inches" when describing a buck. Then there are others who could care less about that, or so they say.
LMAO! You are right Germ. A 90" deer is a Dink to me here in Southern IL, but that doesn't mean it's a dink to someone else or some where else. Tell Grandpa get'em cold I'll come up! Dan
That's one way of looking at it. That's akin to blaming the African-American for getting upset when someone throws the "N" slur at them. I suppose they should suck it up and not let it bother them. Another way of looking at it would be to condemn the person making the slurs.
And if that person was white, then all white people should be condemned. Right Jeff? And no white persons should ever be allowed to speak again. Because it just might lead to further frustration for the African-Americans.
Here's what it basically boils down to. Jeff, you have had some guys that are into the numbers side belittle your accomplishments because of the size of your deer. Not fair, agreed. I on the other side, have had some folks belittle my accomplishments because of where I get to hunt. We both have enjoyed success in taking top end bucks for the areas we hunt. The difference, you let them get to you and change how you feel about something you used to enjoy and have interest in. I didnt, nor will I ever, because I couldnt care less about what someone else thinks. Now, you come across as holding quite a grudge about the entire situation and I say life is just too short for that nonsense. Move on and do what it is you enjoy, but quit painting with such a broad brush.
Really?? Let's see..........at the time of your post I count 13 replies saying otherwise.......10 saying scoring is common and 3 saying some do and some don't. Even funnier is this one..........especially after stopping back in and seeing a whole new thread and 7 more pages of trying to squirm out of the truth. 2 for 2
Fletch: I'm not sure what/who you think I'm painting with such a broad brush. You're saying that I let the few (admitted few) "get to me". Maybe so. They just exposed an EXTREMELY ugly side of deer hunting that I don't care to be associated with. Why does it matter to anyone else....if I choose not to score deer? I'm not telling anyone to stop. It's just not for me. "Jaded"? Definitely. As long as people keep their assertions factual, I don't care what they say about the area I hunt.....or the herd I hunt.
