After ten years with old technology I finally upgraded the old arrow flinger. Just set up the Nemesis this week and went to the local outdoor range for some long range tuning. Absolutely LOVE IT! Forgiving, quiet, and crazy fast. The question is, come deer season am I in for trouble with my FPS and FOC?
Well 9.5 is a little low. Many hunters like a higher front of center for their broad heads. 10-15% range. This is especially important if you plan on shooting long range. When shooting fixed blades at over 300fps I feel extra care in tuning is needed. But a lot of that depends if your broad heads are shooting the same as your field points at distance. Have fun.
I guess i would question multiple things within your set-up. If you are going to shoot a three pin fixed position sight can you be accurate at the ranges in between your pins? 310 fps is great but what are you going to do with a 70 yd pin in SE wisconsin? Todays expandable broadheads are an excellent choice if your are concerned about how fixed blades will affect accuracy due to speed or tuning and I've had great results with the NAP killzone and G5 T3. I believe speed kills and if you can be perfect all the way out to 70 yds more power to you but why not set your pins at the ranges that you take your shots in a hunting situation? Sorry its intended as constructive criticism not knocking you. Good Luck and shoot straight
I think I will try to bump it to 11 or 12 FOC by adding 15-25 grains to the head weight. Hopefully that will allow me to stay with a 340 arrow. I have the Muzzys hitting very close to the field points at 40 but plan to adjust the tune at 60 yds next week if it isnt too warm to shoot. Maybe the heavier heads will help that too. The really nice thing is that I have never had such a consistent and forgiving bow before. Makes tuning go much quicker. The 30, 50, 70 pin setup is one I have used for awhile. With a fast setup like this I am 2" high at 20, 3" low at 35, and 7" low at 40 so I actually hunt with just one pin. The 50 and 70 pins are for practice, emergency finishing shots, and coyotes. It hits about 10" low at 60 with the 50 pin and 12" low at 80 with the 70 pin. Speed sure does kill, I agree. So does KE which is why I like a big number there to help offset the penetration lost with only a 370 gr arrow. Just trying to stack the odds in my favor. Those whitetails are crafty.
