I'll never shoot anything under 500 grains again. Heavier arrows may travel slower, but as mentioned on here by some guys with a lot of experience in this area; they hit harder, penetrate better, and fly better in the wind. There is no downside to a heavier setup other than loss of speed. But to be honest, and this is just my opinion, I would rather hit any animal with a slower heavier setup than I would miss one with an arrow that goes 300 f.p.s. I shoot 532 grain FMJs 262 f.p.s. out of my Z7X. I cant tell you how many guys around proshops and in conversation say that is way too slow to hunt whitetails. Until I show them pictures of the destruction that these things do. A heavy slow arrow passes through places a light fast arrow doesnt even think about penetrating. The whole "my bow shoots x amount of f.p.s." really means very little in terms of hunting performance.

So true! I had to even fight my pro shop guy about it...even he hasfallen for speed. But that's probably due to the money he makes from it.

Archery is the only profession where people seem to keep coming back to spend more money when they are dissatisfied.
