What do you think? Reading the transcripts from this case make me sick to my stomach. ETA: resign. Not re-sign.
He already admitted that he knew, correct? He told the AD, but never went any further. Child molesting infuriates me, and all to often the punishment is not harsh enough.
According to the transcripts, he knew, reported to the AD, and then chose to forget about it. Then the AD promptly tried to sweep it all under the rug and lie about it.
I thought he had said he knew but wasn't sure. Thanks for clearing that up. He should not get to resign. He should be fired.
Sickening... just sickening. Even if Joe Pa is not under investigation I still think he will resign. Its the right thing to do even if he didnt do anything wrong. What a terrible way to end an amazing career...
I also don't understand how McQueary can live with himself? He witnesses a grown man sodomizing a 10 year old kid, and all he does is report it to JoePa the next day? He doesn't try to intervene? He doesn't call the cops immediately? And then, when nothing gets reported, he just lets it go? WTF? Every individual who knew what was going on and did nothing is just as bad, if not worse, than Sandusky.
Agreed. That's the environment of team sports at that level, though, "stick together", "protect your own", "we'll handle it in house as a team". Do you really think that the only folks who actually knew or suspected are just the names we have heard so far? I highly doubt it.
WOW! That is awful. There are a lot of sick bastards out there. Unfortunately, they know how to manipulate people(children) into doing their sick twisted fantasies and those poor kids are going to be messed up for the rest of their lives because of it. It is disgusting.
I really should not have read that. You're right, Hook, it probably ruined my day. Everyone who knew about this and did not take the proper steps to end it, should be held responsible. This is wrong on so many levels.
I just read the whole thing. All I can say is what a ****in piece of ****. He needs to be thrown in the same cell as the biggest guy in there, but then again he might like it. I can't really think of anything that would be a good enough punishment.
I agree 100%. I was shocked when I read that. How can these people live with themselves? Paterno should've stepped down years ago. This hopefully pushes him into retirement once and for all.
You guys are spot on. My guess is he will be given the opportunity to retire or be let go. Either way this weekend is his last home game... if he makes it that long. I'm headed out there this weekend for the game and have to say it has lost all of it's luster.
My wife, who teaches classes at a local YMCA, had to recently take a short course regarding this topic. It covers signs to look for that a child is being touched inappropriately, and ways to prevent children from being put in vulnerable situations. It also discusses what is appropriate contact and what is not. The test involves actual situations, via audio, that you have to decide what has happened and what course of action should be taken. It was disturbing, and makes you question every situation your child has ever been in, and any adult they have been around. It bothered me for a few days. Reading that transcript certainly doesn't help.
I was never a fan of JoePa staying a coach this long as a PSU fan. The argument by the die-hards was that he earned the right to stay as long as he wants (essentially meaning the monetary contributions he makes to the University). I never believed that to be true, and with this rearing its head, he needs to go whether it's forcefully or voluntary, the result must be the same. It's sickening, and it will most likely leave a long term tarnish on what had long been a perceived high class university.
Breaking News Alert The New York Times Tuesday, November 8, 2011 -- 12:10 PM EST ----- Penn State Said to Be Planning Paterno’s Exit Joe Paterno’s tenure as coach of the Penn State football team will soon be over, perhaps within days or weeks, in the wake of a sex-abuse scandal that has implicated university officials, according to two people briefed on conversations among the university’s top officials. The board of trustees has yet to determine the precise timing of Paterno’s exit, but it is clear that the man who has more victories than any other coach at college football’s top level and who made Penn State a prestigious brand will not survive to coach another season. Discussions about how to manage his departure have begun, according to the two people.
