What would you do?? So I’ve be a regular down on my property all summer long starting in June. I have spent a lot of time preparing, and planting my small food plots. I was visiting my grounds about every week for varies things i.e. hanging deer stands, clearing shooting lanes, scouting... a few weeks ago my main food plot (turnips and Loose leaf Lettuce) died and I quickly replanted (radishes) in August; however, this batch isn’t looking so well either. Stupid no rain! What should I do? I’m so worried about going back down there before OCT 1st because, I don’t want the timber to smell like a football locker room, if you get what I mean. Should I say the heck with it and just let Mother Nature take its course, or should I get down there and re plant again? I know I visited too many times, but I’ve been inpatient with waiting for Oct 1st to get here. Do you think It would be worth the risk to plant more turnips down there with only a month away? Before two weeks later Sweating my ACE off after trying to hand plant some freaking radishes. Hence the locker room comment earlier.
Id steer clear and let nature takes it course. Seeing we dont live far from each other i understand the no rain lol. If we EVER get any rain ya never know what might sprout up. Being this close to october though id stay outta there as much as possible
Thanks Waggs, I know I need to stay out of there, but it just drives me nut'z not knowing whats going on down there. I am wanting to get down there to check my cameras once more, but if I do I'll be sent free all the way. I just gotta figure out when the best time would be to go and check those cameras, Do you think the week before opener would be fine? I also read on another thread about using Vanilla Extract to attrack deer, man would I like to try that out at one of my stands. Any way's I've decided to stay out as long as possible, and if I do need to run down there I'll wait until it is cooler outside. no more 100+ degrees days of leaving my scent everywhere. p.s. I have stayed out of thier bedding areas all year.
I'd steer clear and remember theres not to many crops doing well at all in southern IL. The property I hunt in pulaski county didn't get new crops in until june because of all the flooding in the spring. Its another year of soybeans and winter corn. The deer have had two years in a row of odd food sources so I wouldn't sweat it. its better than two season ago with all the corn standing in november and deer just bedding in it.
My last visit down there (last Friday) the beans in the bottoms haven't started producing beans yet; however, the corn up the hill of my property looks like it’ll be coming out soon. It’s mostly brown in color. So my predictions are that once farmer remove their corn the deer will be filling my woods to get close to the beans that will be in perfect shape by OCT 1st. hehehehe.
If I were you, I would disregard any advice! Go in there all the time, dont worry about your scent either. Put coyote urine all over the trees surrounding your food plot and make as much noise as possible, after all, deer are very curious creatures. The only reason im saying this is because you're not on Team 4! Just jacking with you man! I would agree with "Tek4Life", stay clear and let mother nature take its course, best of luck to your crop and hunting.
DrawbackBowhunting, are you seriously joking about the coyote urine? Cause Thats the only sent I use? lol Plus I poop out of my stand. jussayn
I'd personally check the weather and broadcast before the next rain. Won't hurt. Be loud, act like a human.
Goin back in there a week before shouldnt hurt anything id say. As long as its a quick trip straight to the camera and out. Id be wearin rubber boots and sprayin down though just in case. Anything helps! It bein 92 today and dang near 100 tomorrow it may be that close to the season before it ever cools down lol
