Someone told me that its not worth hunting in the rain because the deer dont move because they can't hear anything. So its not worth hunting on a rainy day. Is this true?
Definitely hunt a rainy day! My last good buck was year before last in a fairly heavy rain. Soon as it let up, deer were everywhere. I picked the biggest and let him have it. ive seen that several times, but never got a shot until then. if its raining, IM THERE!
Last year I only had one day to hunt a spot I found way up north. Scouted the day before. Had to hunt the following day. I set up on some big rubs. It just so happened to rain that day and was cold. I decided to hunt while my buddies went to the bar to stay warm. A Nice 125" 8 point walked right past where I had told him to set up and walked my way along with a few doe's. He got with in 35 yards but I had no shot. So I would say hunt in the rain if possible.
Plus it's Sunday I think the Deer are all wrapped up in the NFL today..probably not worth going. I kid ya Bro, I'd love for it to rain here this afternoon. Go hunt!
I love to hunt just before and after any precipitation... good movement! One thing to consider, though... it's difficult to blood trail when the blood gets washed away. If you don't see that deer go down from your stand... could be trouble
Absolutely hunt in the rain. Just before and after, I tend to see a lot of movement. On my land, if its just a nice steady rain, not a downpour, the deer move during the rain.
And what I like to do, is set up right outside of a known bedding area while its raining. Had a lot of luck when it comes to seeing bucks right ater it quits.
in my opinion, it's not so much the deer movement you need to worry about, but the ability to recover one if you shoot it. That's where the rain can wreak havoc.
I have learned that anything is possible at any time One way you know your not gonna shot a deer on a rainy day is to not go
This. I think a lot of people will also say it depends on what kind of rain it is. Also, it depends on what you're hunting with (gun vs bow). Also, some people just don't like being outside when it's raining.
This is my concern. I will hunt a light drizzle but a hard rain...no! It doesn't take long to lose a bloodtrail in the rain. What if your shot placement is less than ideal in the pouring rain...who knows where that deer will end up.
The person who told you this doesn't know jack about deer if that is what they think. Is it worth hunting in the rain? That you will have to decide on your own. Me...I don't enjoy sitting in anything heavier than a light drizzle and as Rybo mentioned it's tougher to blood trail deer when rain is washing it away.
I love a light drizzle. Light/spotty rain is is OK. But an all day downpour, probably staying home or maybe use a ground blind. The hunting is a bit tougher as you will not hear the crunching sounds of an approaching deer ... they move without a sound ... but so can you!
I shot my first deer ever with a bow right after a nice rain. Heart shot, so the trail was easy to follow.
It's been raining kinda heavy here for the last week with plenty of wind and I've got 0 pics on my trail camera. Kinda shocking. Usually they don't have a problem with a light rain as long as the wind isn't like how it's been the past few days.
