Anytime is a good time to tickle the antlers together or hit the rattle bag. Once the end of Oct rolls around I start, that way I can get a little more aggressive and not spook them so much. But remember they are more than likely going to circle down wind from you so be careful on your scent and movement.

If your going to do it now the best time would be 1st shooting light. Soon as it is legal to shoot and you can see your pins.

I been doing it some, but I wait and let the normal early morning and evening activity play out. If I rattle this time of year I will usually do it between 10am and 3pm and within earshot (for the deer) of a bedding area where a buck might have gone into to bed. I'll try to get him to get up and come check it out. JMO, I've done quite a bit of rattling but I'm no rattling expert.

I always see/hear light sparring early in the season or even before. As to whether it will bring other bucks in that early...who knows?

I have gotten a smallish 8 point to come right to the base of my tree already by lightly rattling. Figured it couldn't hurt anything, then he came like 5 mins after.
