I took a shot at a doe last evening at about 27 yrds. She was broadside and the shot looked like in was EXACTLY in the boiler room. I mean exactly where I was aiming. I waited 30 mins to get down to look for my arrow/blood. When I got to the spot where she was standing I found nothing. No arrow and no blood. Not a drop of blood! I played it over in my mind and I know what I saw, that arrow hit where it was aimed!
I can perhaps imagine not finding the arrow, but not finding at least "some blood"? Is it possible to send an arrow through the boiler room and have no blood/hair at the impact zone or for the next, say 30 yrds? I looked in the immediate area for blood and found none. I watched where she ran for as long as I could so as to try to be able to find the trail, and no blood. I didn't want to push the issue too much as it was getting towards dark. I'm heading back out right after this post. Hopefully I'll come back with good news.

The only thing I could possibly think of is if you hit her at a downward angle and your arrow hit the offside leg and did not exit. That high wound/no exit wound might prevent a noticeable blood trail for a good bit. GOOD LUCK.

ps..I once shot a buck with a muzzleloader through the heart. He bolted like crazy. I could not for the life of me find any blood for the first 30-40 yards, then I found drops...then I found him dead at about the 50 yard mark.

I agree with arrow probably slamming opposite shoulder and staying in. A high lung area hit will sometimes just fill the lungs instead of bleading out the side. good luck, kudos for not pushing the issue and waiting.

I was in at first light looking in detail for my arrow/blood. I found nothing again. But I encountered another fellow who was scouting, and he helped me search for 2 hours without success. I hate losing a deer.

In the heat of the moment it can be very deceiving as to where you actually hit. Happens to everyone. In my eyes there's no way you double lunged her. A high lung shot with no exit wont produce a very good blood trail but the deer should still be dead within 100yds +/-, unless somehow spooked while on her death run. Maybe she doubled back on you, check in the opposite direction you saw her run. Good luck
