Still going there? Hey kid, you accused me of breaking game laws and still have never had the balls to apologize. Grow a pair and then move on.

I’m not talking a high fence operation, that’s not even hunting. I mean just guided hunts (which im not putting down). Personal preference wise, I would rather bait a deer on my home farm then go to an outfitter and kill a big buck every year like the TV personalities do.

I like watching shows like Midwest Whitetail and Growing Deer TV where guys have there own farms and manage them fair chase.

I don't have much to add but will say this...my order of respect towards hunters kinda follows this flow chart from most respected to least:

Mature/Trophy Buck with primitive gear > Mature/Trophy Buck with vertical modern archery > Mature/Trophy Buck with primitive boomsticks (not inline ML) > Mature/Trophy Buck with horizontal archery > Mature/Trophy Buck with no scoped ML/Shotguns or PCRs > Mature/Trophy Buck modern scoped firearms > Bait pile deer of any kind (although done with archery is more of a challenge for sure than boomsticks even if over bait pile)

This represents only my opinion personally and no one else. Granted things may slide and shift some obviously but after experiencing bait hunting once in Kansas, it simply put is not for me at all.

Well by "in a can" I meant a stocked free range ranch that baits deer while a guide holds the hunters hand. A fenced in deer farm didn't cross my mind actually when I said that. I just meant I can see why rich guys find it appealing to buy a hunt, it takes a lot of money and work to grow deer. I agree with you about it being fulfilling to grow and hunt your own farm produced deer.

    lol this thread...

I hunt private land but it used to be a hunting lease (Texas). Previous hunters were such masterful baiters and had what I would consider maximum lazy set-ups (box blinds looking at feeders.... everywhere). Because of this deer rarely hit the feeders. Probably also due to the fact that the feeders pull in hogs like crazy and I don't think deer like use them at the same time hogs do.

I will gladly shoot hogs over feeders and have a great time doing it, but for deer the chase is much more exciting by not doing this. Which is a good thing lol because feeders are highly ineffective for deer in my area!

I just started doing aug-sept-oct. scouting.... I don't even use game cameras anymore because it makes me want to always walk into my hunt areas too often to check them. Also, for me, I think game cameras make me get unnecessary tunnel vision because I tend focus too much on how often deer use a certain trail, when in reality they could be walking nearby trails too that are out of camera view.

Wow, I missed a good one boys.
Fletch, you are 100% wrong, as this random guy knows exactly what your laws are and which ones you have broken.

Tiggie is smart, don't question him or he will dislike all of your posts.

Man, seriously though, what a D-bag. As for my opinion on baiting, I still can see both sides. I would rather a guy kill a buck over bait when legal then a healthy and able guy killing a buck with a crossgun and no bait.

Ultimately, I see both sides of the issue, but I feel that if it is legal then go for it. I really like Iowa's baiting laws as of now. But who knows, those could very well change according to a very credibe source known as tiggie.
I really wish I would have seen this thread earlier. I love arguing and giving my opinions. Especially when a guy like tiggie strolls by.

There’s my two this year.... they’re no 160s but still trophies to me. I had some close encounters with bigger ones but just couldn’t close the distance. That’s public land in Arkansas and it was so freakin rewarding! I’m tired of the outdoor industry and these so called pro hunters. If you are too, check out my Facebook @ Huntzilla. We have a group on there called whitetails weights and whiskey. It’s time we get back to huntings roots.

Baiting is illegal in Washington State. Hunters still get some big deer, just takes some work.

took me 3 years to get this guy. no baiting involved. just beat him at his own game! I have put a ton of time in this property to find where the giants roam. I now feel confident I can kill more bucks of this caliber there. once you learn how to read the land it get easier at that point. terrys phone, buck, pics, etc 11-6-17 121.jpg

Yes it's possible, if you do your homework. Or you can do like I do for my 12 yr. Old daughter and set out bait, she's in the learning process so she gets a pass. Grown men that hunt over bait cracks me up, are you really a hunter, or a killer? To compare a pile of corn to a food plot or ag field is ridiculous. In a plot or ag field their not all coming to that one little spot 20 yards from the tree, they might not even come by my stand, but that's hunting and that's why I love it! When you guys bait I hope you don't put your piles at 20 yards but like 50 for a challenge right? I put my daughter's at 20 but she's 12.

Granted, I'm not a good hunter, I don't kill giants. I shot an okay 130" buck this year, and it made me so much more happier that I killed him, by doing my homework and not relying on a giant corn pile to bring him to the tree I wanted.

This to most, is a good hunter!

O.K. Guys--idea,s are very welcome---I have 40 acres of hunting land-- 2 small food plots included--surrounded by about 20,000 acres of countuy land--hunted the county land for a long time--nicely varied lowland-then ridges with lots of oak tree,s then low swamp land, absolutely beautiful---I learned how to hunt the ridge edges for nice bucks, was very successful, then county decided to clear cut most hardwood tree,s from all lands, now I have growing clear cuts of various ages, huge amounts of bedding area,s most places you can not shoot an arrow farther than 10 feet, or see to shoot a bullet very far-- how the hell do you pattern bucks in this crap ??? I have tried waiting to sit rubs lines and scrapes, but most of the time when I find a good one its too late and the chase has begun ??? food plots work real well but big bucks only arrive long after dark.

I rather shoot 130 every year that, than a 160" over corn.

But hunting with bait makes you an incredible baiter.

    Some would say a master.

Yes, why settle on being just an incredible baiter when you could take your game all the way to master baiter?

I have shot around 20 bucks 125" or better and one was over a corn pile. I was very proud of that hunt.

I was hunting a friend of mines land. It was 100 acres with a 15 acre pond in it. The problem was the pond was full of fish and attracted trespassers. Lots of them. The problem was that the trespassers would start loading up their gear and either walk out or drive their cars out right at prime time and keep the deer bedded until after dark.

Baiting was legal back then so I found a real thick spot a bit away from the pond and set up a bait pile to give the deer some place to snack while they waited for the trespassers to leave. I had to wait for about 2 weeks for the deer to begin using the corn pile then moved in and shot a 130" on my first try. I was proud of the fact that my plan had worked.

Here where I live baiting is illegal. I've seen corn, but the bait of choice seems to be pumpkins. Guys get broken ones from wherever, put them out, hang a stand with a billion candlepower LED floodlight mounted to it, and night hunt illegally with guns and crossbows in an archery only county. Between the baiting and trespassing, it's a main reason why at this point I've mostly lost interest in hunting....sad.

I've been bow hunting for 3 full seasons now and I'm located in east Texas where it is legal. I'd say 100% of the leases around me including mine all bait with corn feeders. I've killed 4 deer in those 3 years but only two have come from feeders (does). I've only come close to a mature buck at a feeder 1-2 times in the 3 years I've been hunting them but wasn't able to seal the deal. The bucks in my area are smart ( like most bucks across the country) and don't typically come to feeders. Even the mature does get smart around feeders and usually abandon them. If the bucks come by it's typically later on when they are spot checking does and 9 times out of 10 it's typically at night. My two bucks I've killed came off trails leading to active scrape areas. I'll hunt the feeders the first two weeks of the season to get my does and meat for the freezer. After that I'm hitting up the acorns, trails, funnels, scrapes, etc.

IMO, the corn doesn't do anything other than just an inventory check for you. I'll keep hunting with it and without it...
