Is it possible for Oregon to line up under center?

Their offense just seems so Mickey Mouse to me. I don't remember one snap Oregon took that was under center. Not one. Obviously this offense has been effective throughout the year but not against a good defense like Auburn’s last night.

At times they were able to move the ball but when it is 1st and goal at the 2 yard line a football team should have the personnel to line up under center and run the ball. That is how football was meant to be played. I hope this is not the future of college football.

I never understood this statement. If football was still played how "it was meant to be played", we wouldn't see any pass plays.

There are a lot of college offenses that never/rarely take a snap under center. Remember Tebow trying to learn how to take a snap under center at the Senior Bowl?

Plenty of college offenses never go under center (Vince Young, Tim Tebow, Kevin Kolb, etc...)

And Auburns defense is not a good defense. They have a good interior line but that's it. So why would Oregon want to line up under center and run the ball directly at Auburn's strength? That makes no sense.

Auburn has a horrible secondary, but it seemed as though Chip Kelley did not have enough faith in his QBs arm to try to expose it.

Oh and if you didn't notice, Cam Newton never gets under center either...

Auburn had the 8th best defense in the SEC, it's not really all that good. Oregon should have tried to hit the long passes instead of being stubborn and trying to run the ball.

IIRC, Florida did take some snaps under center. Florida also took the ball and ran it straight at you (even from the shotgun). 95% of Oregon plays are misdirections or screens even at the goal line. Just does not seem right Vito.

Have you seen the size of Oregon's backs? Like Hook mentioned, Auburn's strength is their front 4. Oregon's O-line was smaller, and they have small running backs. I think trying to get to the outside makes sense. They were trying to use their strength, speed and mobility.

IF you notice from watching the spread the past three years, when they come up against a team with a big fast defensive line it almost always shuts the run down.

The read option play which is the bread and butter of the spread was worthless last night.

8th best in the SEC is obviously good enough to take care of the #2 overall rated team though...

Yes, this is why it doesn't work in the NFL

Fast defensive line and linebackers will kill the spread every time.

People hate to hear talk of the SEC speed, which is usually pumped up entirely too much. All top teams have speed at the skill positions, but what the SEC does have that most other conferences don't, is speed on the DL. It was very evident last night, as well as in the past against teams like OSU.

No doubt that is the way their team is built. It was almost unwatchable.

At the end of the day, a good defence (not that Auburn's was great) will stop a good offence. Some goes for baseball. Pitching usually beats good hitting. You have a basketball team that lights up the scoreboard, a good defence shuts em dowm.
That maybe the over all strength of the SEC. Like Hooker said, speed across the entire field.
