Today was the last of the season, and I can't wait to get started for next year. I pulled a camera off the farm the other night while I was coon hunting, and just got around to looking at the pics. This was on the south end of our property, and I have been hitting the north end over the last month, so this camera has just been sitting there untouched. Well it got paid a visit by multiple deer. 230 pictures in all over the last 7 weeks, and one of a buck that was MIA all year. I saw this deer 4 times in 2008. The first 2 days of the season he fed out in front of me in a bean field, but never offered a shot. Then 2 times during the rut I saw him chasing does. He was about a 130" 10 pointer then. He grew up some..... That tree limb broke off and fell in front of the camera, so it blocks some of the picture. I'm ready to get out and try to find these sheds and hopefully his bedroom in the upcoming weeks.
Great one to look forward to next season, but geez let a guy rest up a bit first.:D It'll be here before ya know it.
Coyotes, squirrels, beaver trapping... getting the boat ready for bowfishing. Pfff... deer season comes too soon.
I'm enjoying the break. Granted, I have plenty of things to keep me busy all year long. Just too many hobbies:D
What a stud of a whitetail. I'd be on a mission to find his sheds too. Gonna be a lot of day-dreamin' for you this summer.
I've got about a month left of running coon hounds, then heavy winter scouting, fishing for bass and catfish, a week for trying to take my first turkey with a bow......but whitetails still are my obsession.
if he made it thru the season, he'll be huge next yr. hope you find his sheds, and then you'll get your chance this yr.
I'm sure hoping he did. The picture was taken Dec. 18th, and the hunting pressure is pretty light after the major gun seasons end. I guess time will tell, and your right....he will be HUGE next year
I could do without Jan 15th-April 1st of every year. Sure indoor is fun, but it doesn't take up as much of my time. Smallies and beer on the river are a nice fix for the summer, coupled with hunting prep, I can handle the other non hunting months.
Nice Pic for sure!! Good Luck with him next season. There really isn't much of an offseason for dedicated Bowhunters. Dan
It's already started. I've looked at the picture about a dozen times today and marked up a topo map of spots to hit first in a few weeks. I know the limb makes it hard to tell but what do you think he scores. He's a no doubt shooter and hopefully I can get my hands on his sheds.
x2. Make sure you enjoy the offseason. While this sport is a year round endeavor for the majoirty of us, pulling the reigns back a bit during the spring and summer will allow one to go "gung ho" once October rolls around. Atleast that is how it works for me.
