I was sitting on the throne at work flipping through a magazine as I often do. I came across stun guns that will go through 2" of clothing and deliver 1,000,000 volts. This supposedly renders an attacker immobile for five to ten minutes. Then I look right next to it and it's pepper spray for bears. Then I start thinking... Not that I would want the encounter, but would it be legal to tase a bear? Assuming the taser was enough to stun the bear for even a minute. Would it be legal to tase it in defense. If your in season and have a tag, could you kill the bear legally after tasing? Anyone have any state laws that specifically restrict this? "These are the things I think about when I'm at home and the power goes out." George Carlin
You could always take it one step more gangsta, and double wield those tasers... Maybe it would make a current though, so... someone else should try that first... Can you hold two tasers, and hit one person with them? Or would it cancel each other out? I'm curious now... I never get to do the fun training.... (Tasers, OC, etc...)
Let me ask a serious question...... If you are truly in fear for your life....do you give a rat's ass what's "legal" or not? Taser......bear spray....... .45.......(_______)..... Would you use any/all of these?
I choose none of the above. I would ONLY use a Strother's Bow to defend myself. I believe the bow comes with an emergency number to call HCH. I would feel at ease if my situation rapidly deteriorated in the form of a large bear. In fact, I probably would start laughing at the bear, knowing that I had a Strother's Bow in hand and HCH on the way.
Jeff, to answer your question, absolutely not. You are reading into the question too much. It's a hypothetical question regarding the legality... nothing else. Shadow, you're too funny. Ben, Paul Bunyan over here doesn't care about your Davey Crockett.
Doepee.... I guess I just naturally took it to the next step. Let's assume it IS illegal (everything I mentioned).....and you're threatened. Now what?
I'm certainly not going to rely on a taser. I carry bear pepper spray. The only time I have to worry about a bear is when I'm walking to the stand in the am. If I jump one I've got my pepper spray ready. If I were charged, I would hold my breath, spray once to shock the bear, spray again, and then run like hell. From what I read, one spray is enough to stop a bear attack. I hope I never have to find out first hand.
VA, love the Red Dawn reference, but think you may be onto a winner with the HCH idea. On to more serious talk. I know Steve is looking for the legality angle, but when it comes to bears, one piece of advice comes to mind. "Unless you can hit a 30 mph tennies ball bouncing down a hill, your pistol is useless." Pepper spray is the way to go. The benefit of muzzle flash and the sound of the shot is a more effective result of the gun shot, especially when dealing with a charge.
I'm not arguing with you.....just trying to understand the correlation between a tennis ball and something the size of a bear.
