Just a quick question and wondering if I'm just letting it bother me too much. First off its not my ground, but owner kinda has same feelings I do. Was helping buddy work some calves today and he brings up that a neighbor stopped by complaining I keep leaving a gate open. So some back story. Theres a old fence through a bunch of brush and my buddy who owns ground i hunt has cattle wanted to put up new one. So we put it up closer to field edge so its more straight line and not through brush. About 10 feet from old one on his ground. It connects to a older fence and where that is we put a gateway leading onto neighbors crp field with the understanding use it to get on both sides and mow. Even though technically you'd be on same property. Fence moved property line didn't. So this gate as been there all spring amd summer wide open but about 2 weeks ago the neighbors son, which is older guy, went out and shut the gate and wired the crap out of it because he gun hunts and can only assume doesnt want deer using gate to cross onto property I hunt because he has a stand right there. Which is dumb because you'd want them to use gate next to stand instead of walk 5 strand barbwire until they decide to jump it. Basically would be a funnel right to your stand. But anyway I've been opening it to get on other side and walk to another stand instead of goin a way that takes longer and dont haveta crawl under or climb over barbwire and haven't really been to concerned shutting the gate back when leave. So when buddy told me this we both kinda laughed, because it really doesn't matter and it was never even there to begin with until we put fence up last spring. And it really doesn't matter to me if its open or closed just kinda erks me that he made a special trip to buddies house to relay that I need to keep it shut since he shut it 2 weeks ago. So idk guess just wondering if I'm just letting it bother me too much and should just forget about it or what. But I dont feel that he has anymore say on if its open or closed than friend that owns ground I'm on, especialy since its not the property line and we put in all the labor and material to build fence. But maybe I'm wrong and just needed to rant. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Everyone has a different idea of what's right in their head and it makes everything a lot easier to just get along. It doesn't seem like a huge deal that he's complaining about it if the landowner doesn't care and jokes with you about it. The guy probably just likes to complain. I'd just try to keep the gate shut and be nice to the guy even if he is a bit of a whiner. Open or closed it's not a big deal. You have to pick your battles in life and I don't think this one is worth getting into.
Definitely sounds like he is just looking for something to complain about! Like ruteger has already said, pick your battles. And id also agree just close the gate to avoid the drama in the future! Sent from my SM-G930V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I'm thinking that he thinks it will put you at odds with the land owner. I once had a former friend tell a land owner that I was shooting deer with a 22 rifle and claiming them as archery kills. I had several successfully hunts on this property, while he had none. One day the property owner just told me I couldn't hunt anymore. I never understood why. Then about a year later, another friend told me how my former friend got me kicked off the property because I was getting deer and he wasn't. He lied to the land owner to get the place to himself. Yea at end of day its not really worth fighting over. I just find it annoying and petty and there's alot more to whole situation that gets under my skin about the guy but its not worth explaining. I'll just say he's a d-bag and not just from this situation. Never had any problems or confrontation , but me, my buddy that owns ground I hunt, and his son all grew up together so I've known him practically whole life and that's just the way he is.
