It is slow here too! All my cams are all at night with the big boys. I have 120ish bucks running during day but not my targets.
I hope you're right! Those exact dates are my vacation and there's an 8 on the farm that's going to push 150" and I'd love to put a killzone through his heart!
Thanks for making this post Justin. I lease my first property ever in Saline county IL. I know nothing about hunting big whitetails other then what I read or see on this site. My buddy took a doe Sat morning, but we just aren't seeing deer like I thought. Granted I may have had a pie in the sky notion that because I was going to be in IL I'd be having to decide between 10 does in one plot as to which I'd take, but apparently it's just slow for everyone. I hate you are not seeing the deer you want but you at least made me feel better that I didn't screw up on my decision to lease this place
Amen. I still think its a bit early to expect a ton of movement. I see the biggest/ most deer around Veterans day (Nov. 11).
@Justin. I'm an hour south of you and it's dead down here. Was out this morning and didn't see a thing. Heard some movement but could have been a damn squirrel. Trail cam lit up earlier this month but had it out last week and only a couple of does came past it and a couple of coyotes. Hoping this weekend will be good.
Not much going on in South Central Minnesota neither. I always have pretty good deer numbers right up until the crops get picked, and then for some reason, my deer sightings go down. I did harvest a nice doe on September 29th, and have had some other opportunities at does, no good bucks yet. Even the trailcams are slow this year.
thinking the same thing...spent two days in the woods..does with fawns...no cruzin, younger bucks with nose to the ground....but thats how they find the acorns!
Seem on BH.com it's slow. I also was predicting a ton of BBD threads when I signed on here today. I went to our camp up north in the Adirondacks this past weekend for opening day of rifle season to spend one last weekend with the boys before I move. I covered roughly 12 miles and saw a TON of rubs and scrapes, much more than normal for this time of year. We also killed two bucks that were with seperate doe family groups including a mature 180lb 8 pointer. Seems from my limited view that upstate NY is on or ahead of pace but the reports from elsewhere are slow for sure. I'll be driving across Ohio, Indiana, and eastern IL on Friday this week for my move. I'm curious what type of deer movement I'll see from the road as I'm traveling.
Well what do you know? Maybe Charles Alsheimer's moon phase predictions will be right. I've followed them the last two years and he has been spot on from what I've seen and heard. According to his information it should be game on the 14th through the 25th. Hope he's right. I"m planning on it and have hunting dates planned accordingly.
This past weekend results........3 days hunting, zero deer seen, zero trail cam pics. West Central Wisconsin east of Black River Falls.
I was slated to have vacation from the 2nd through the 9th but after looking at the weather... Near 60 daily and a chance of rain several days... I requested to bump it back a week. I'll know tomorrow if I'll get it, if I do itll be the 9th through the 16th...
Well I'm pretty sure I cursed myself with this thread today... Went out tonight and at very last light had a nice wide 8 point come in. I was hunting on the ground at 12 yards - shot him right in the knuckle of the shoulder. The arrow didn't penetrate at all - the broadhead literally stuck in his shoulder and the insert pulled out/broke at the end of the shaft. Zero blood on the arrow and about 20 drops of blood over 150 yards or so. I'm sick right now. Time to get some sleep and try all over again tomorrow...
JZ had the same thing last year and to keep it short I'm still hunting that buck! At least there's a good chance of full survival! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I sat on a inside corner of a freshly picked corn field Sunday night where I could see a LONG ways. Deer usually pour into this field at night. I saw one young 8 pointer and that was it. I couldn't believe it.
I personally hope things hold off for a couple more weeks because I'm stuck in NC. I'm taking some time off Nov 12-17th to go back home and get some bowhunting in before the orange army takes over.
