I seriously don't think I'm normal. I have to be one of the cheapest people I know. I've spent quite a bit of money in the past few months on remodeling our family room, but when it comes to buying things for me, even if I know for a fact that I can afford it, I just convince myself I don't need it. I could use a new mower (I've been researching ZTRs for a few months), but I won't buy one. I've been wanting to get back into mountain biking again, and my brother found a steal on an F1000 for me, but I'm finding a lot of ways to convince myself not to buy it. Heck, it took me weeks to find a price I was willing to pay on two dozen ACCs, when in reality I really only ended up saving $100:p. It's as if my main priority is saving as much $$ as possible, but I know in the back of my mind that's no way to live life, but it's hard to break the habit. My wife has litterally told me to buy things (the bike, bows, mower, etc), but I still don't. It's almost as if I have a constant case of pre-purchase remorse.

    Anyone else like this?

    Just ranting a bit;)

Do you grease your shoes in the morning so that you don't squeak when you walk?:) Yeah bud, you need to loosen up a bit. I probably should tighten up a bit. You have the money, in reality, I don't. Frankly, I am envious, but I guess that's why you are in the position you are. Be honest, you just want to be ready to jump on land if you find it. :)

Well, get a few years more under your belt and your whole attitude about spending will change. Take me.... I used to spend.... sometimes and then only after agonizing over it for days or weeks or in the case of my Sarovski binos a couple years. NOW??? I'm 66. I have some money in the bank and if I REALLY want something... well hell... I'm probably going to buy it. I may be dead before I get to use it so why not buy it. LOL I don't have a ton of money... but for my laid back country lifestyle... I'm comfy. Of course I'm figuring on not making it to 75... so.... if I live longer.. I'm in trouble. LOL My boy has told me not to save it for him and do what I want. LOL 2 years ago I owned NO fly rods and didn't fly fish. Now I have 6 or 7 fly rods. They're addictive. NOPE... it's not hard to spend money..... but I still control myself. I don't go crazy. My buddy wants me to buy a kayak... I tell him... too much work. He wants me to buy a motorcycle. I tell him I'm afraid of them. I buy him lunch. He buys me lunch. That's enough. We both have 4 wheelers and belong to a club with a couple hundred miles of trails.. That's enough. SO... if it's in my scheme of things to do I spend it. If not....nope... I don't need it or want it bad enough. Now when I had a wife and a kid living at home... I didn't buy anything without permission. LOL

This is a fascinating topic (to me). One of the reasons I love my wife is because she is frugal (she is a stay at home wife/mom). She clips coupons, buys generic stuff, shops at Walmart or even Aldi's  when appropriate. She has a food bill and she sticks to it. She watches bills like a hawk. She keeps money in the bank.

I am cheap also with some things. I won't buy a brand new car or truck. I don't like to buy shots at the bar because they cost so much, I buy Busch Light beer instead of premium beer like I want, I don't get ANY premium channels on our satellite dish, etc.

Having said that, with some things, I don't mind spending money. Hunting is a perfect example. I will drop $200 on a tree stand, $150 on a sight and $100 on a rest in a second. Without thinking twice. Another example is camping. As I said, I won't buy a new car or truck but I will buy a new travel trailer.

I am thinking more and more that if I enjoy it, I will spend the money. If it is just a life's necessity, I am cheap as hell.

simple answer is yes i spend money...

i am very fortunate and grateful to have the parents i have... they have put me through college and are currently putting me through grad school and i am at home living with them... i dont have any bills to pay other than my credit card, which i pay t off every month, and i have a decent job i can work during school that provides me with money to save and spend...

with that said my dad has always bought things he has wanted and it rubbed off on me. i dont really go out and spend hundreds of dollars a month at the bars and what not like i did in school and i dont go out to eat and waste money in that fashion too often... but i did spend almost $3000 on a bow, pistol, and a couple shotguns... i can justify the bow cause i needed a decent one but i still shopped around for a good deal... the guns i didnt really need them cause we have dozens but they wont go bad and ill have them forever to pass on just like my dad has done with me.

my parents have told me to spend my money now and buy things that i want becuase when, and if, i get married and have children the spending money on things will not happen so enjoy it while i can and get everything now so i dont need it later...

while i do spend money i am very cheap on things that i dont really want (food, night life, etc.), i do work hard and hopefully when outta school and get a job i will be able to start saving the big bucks.

If I need It I'll get It most times If It's reasonably priced. I'm also one of those guys that will spend the extra buck and get top of the line too In allot of cases. I can not stand buying something cheap made and going back and buying a better made product being the cheaper made product didn't cut It. In my line of work what I buy NEEDS to be good being I'm always on the run. I have no down time what so ever so reliability over rides me being a tight ass. I wasn't always this way though. I learned a few valuable lessons early when I bought the milk hauling business.

I can't seem to stop. I love buying hunting and fishing gear. I have a lot of fun too. Money was made to spend, and spend I do. As long as the bills get paid, a little into savings and retirement, and spend the rest. Kinda makes me warm and fuzzy thinking about buying a new bow? ;)

If I there is something I want, or can convince myself that I need.... I'll buy it if I have the means to do so... That's not always the case, I really want/need a new"er" pickup with 4x4 but yet I'm still rolling in my 2wd S-10 until I can get a few things payed off,

I've done told myself if I sell My old '69 Chevy I'm buying a zero turn.

I'm both I guess. I spend a lot of money on hunting, fishing and golf (most) But, I gauge how much I make and how much I'm spending at any given time. In other words if I feel I'm spending more than I should on another set of irons, I'll make up for it by making more money to compensate for it. So I guess I'm always spending a constant percentage compared to my income. At the same time I am a very good saver of money. I've been stashing away a percentage of my income for a lot of years now. You know..... the money that you set aside and say you'll never touch only to dig into it a week later lol. Well I haven't dug into that account in about a decade. Out of sight out of mind to me. It doesnt' exist.

Yes & no. I'm kind of cheap in that I'll shop around for the best price, comparing several websites. Sometimes I talk my self out of buying things because of the need vs want thing.
but on the other hand I don't live a very extravagant lifestyle, so I have gotten a lot more "toys" lately, because I don't spend money frivilously on stupid stuff (depending on your definition of "stupid")

    Well I don't know.

I don't buy many things. I might make a purchase a month, but when I do buy something, I fully research it to be sure I'm getting the best possible product, no matter the price. I usually buy top end products as a result. But I always save for a purchase over $300, so I don't really sweat it.

I'm cheap, but then I'm not cheap. I just consider myself smart with money.

Except this weekend when I took my fiancee on a weekend shopping spree for her birthday. That wasn't smart...

First off it's better to be in your situation than the opposite.

As for me - with a wife and 3 kids I feel like I'm an economic stimulus plan everyday of the week:)

spending has never been a problem for me, ok, well, its been a little bit of a problem in that I've gone thru times where I spent to much, right now I'm being a cheap basterd, I buy very little if anything for myself or the wife as we are working on digging ourselves out of some debt we no longer wish to have... debt brought on by some not so smart purchasing decisions, oh well...

There are some things I'd love to have that are pretty expensive and I just can't justify purchasing right now till our home projects are completed and we have sold and moved into a new place. Once we are in the house we plan to stay in long term, I'd love to get a boat, a camper, and a quad......in that order. We need to get out of our current house and into the country before I can feel comfortable spending on any of those things though.

When it comes to smaller things (bowhunting gear, fishing gear, etc), I spend.......but spend accordingly with my income. If I want something, I usually find a way to get it. Being in sales, my monthly income can fluctuate as much as 400% from month to month. On the slow months, I've got enough to pay the bills and stash some into retirement, and I don't spend much else. On the good months, the majority of the "extra" goes into savings, retirement, house projects, car repairs/maintenance, and other things I don't want to spend it on, etc..........but I usually will take some of that and it goes into toys. Some good months it might be $100, some good months it might be much more.......it really depends. I don't buy toys impusively though. I do research, and know exactly what I want before I ever put myself in a position to make a purchasing decision for things that are say $100+.

I am pathetic the last few years. With 3 kids and a wife.....I pick up like $50 worth of stuff at a sporting goods store and by the time I hit the register I have unloaded half of it because I am worried about money.

I'm pretty tight with my money right now. By the looks of things in my savings and checking account, I should be able to make it til the end of this year with paying tuition/rent/utilities etc. I have a part time job here at school, but I only make minimum wage, and I only work about 12.5 hrs/week. Once this semester is over, I will immediately be picking up a job where I'll be working 37.5 hrs/week, and making half decent money. However, I'm still going to have to take out loans to be able to pay my last year of tuition and bills. I'm hoping to get through this all without having to dig myself into too much debt. Once I graduate, I plan on making paying off my loans my first priority, then saving up some money. I don't think I'll be able to spend as I would like to for several more years unfortunately lol...
