I'm not much of a regular turkey hunter, just on occasion when I'm not fishing or if they walk by while deer hunting. This year I am looking to change that. In Ohio we have to remove bait 10 days prior to hunting but I am just curious about other states, do they allow baiting turkey? Do the regulations differ from fall and spring seasons or are they usually the same for both? When I think of turkey hunting the first thing that comes to mind is decoys, I never really thought about putting out food specifically for turkey but the more I research the more I see people talking about it. I have the decoys and have the calls, I'm just looking to maximize my success after a drought in deer season so any input is greatly appreciated!
Here in Arkansas we can bait turkeys and deer on private property. We can not hunt turkeys over the bait or with the bait in site. I've always walked around and called every 20 steps or so. Just normal calls and I've never missed filling my tags. Bait isn't necessary and I've never seen any turkeys near my feeders. good luck this year.
Don't believe we can bait Turkey here in Jersey either.... But I do work on alot of Horse farms and I get permission to hunt them but most of the farms that I go to that have wild Turkey, I always see the turkey eating feed that the horse left behind on the ground or picking un digested grain from the horses manure...
I take turkeys wherever I have the inclination (legally)...they are thicker than rabbits here and eat more from the feeders than the deer. Never have been much of a turkey hunter but I will take one to eat on occasion. Honestly, I don't know if it's legal here but I suspect it's illegal to bait them. The only turkeys I generally take are during bow season.
You can't hunt turkeys over bait in NJ but we do run corn in our feeders up to opening day of turkey to get them back on the farm.
Is it common? Yeah. Is it legal? No, probably not. Defeats the fun of turkey hunting to sit a bait pile anyway though...
I was wonder if there was any thing as far as food plot ideas mostly to bring the turkey in to the property during the summer? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
