They are not all needs, but I like to think they are.

    2 new hang-ons + 2 20 ft climbing sticks...$230.79
12 Easton axis N-Fused arrows HIT inserts #400...$116.59
    2 packs shuttle T-locks...$74.18

New predator camo insulated jacket + bibs + various other odds and ends to make my outfit match so me and hooker get along....$513.25

Total cost to sit in my new stands sporting new arrows and BHs in my extra warm and water resistance hunting attire ...$ 934.02

Not counting scent control products(mostly baking soda), trail cam batteries, monster raxx, gas, etc, etc....

    Worth it? Hell ya

It gets worse as hunting season get close. When I go to ****s or Bass Pro or even the bow shop my spending gets ridiculous! It's a sickness that can't be stopped so why even try!!!!

For me the major difference is only the broadheads and the gasoline.

I would be shooting anyway, whether I hunt or not.

    So 1 dozen broadheads at $15 each = $180.

And gas for a 6 hour round trip to my campsite and back at 60 pmh and 20 mpg and $4.50 per gal = $81 per hunting trip.

It can definitely start to add up in a hurry especially if you are just starting out. If you have been hunting for a while and just add a few things per year it isnt as bad. But alot of different things that you spend your free time on are expensive as well like golf, four wheeling, snow mobiling, fishing, heck even camping if you go with the big camper and a seasonal spot.

It can be...especially if you hunt out of state. The fees for non-resident liscences are outrageous. e.g. VA- $ 231 for everything you would need to bowhunt & WV- $ 228 for same. Resident fees for the same states around $30 - 50.

It is way less expensive if you don't believe the hype ...

Yea I hear ya ! Between fishing, chasing whitetails and predators, guns it gets expensive! I've been trying to talk myself into a new AR or .22-250 for the past year an a half now every time I bring the funds together I find something else I want. This year it was a new motor for the boat... Gotta have toys though!

This is going to be my first season hunting alone and bow hunting all together. I love shooting and wow getting ready for my first season is surely expensive but man is it worth it to me. I'm so excited to finally get started and maybe get lucky my first season.

Agreed. I think once you own everything you thought you needed your all set. I always notice the people who have been hunting the longest never have any of the new stuff but their always the most sucessful of the day. That's my goal.

I don’t find hunting expensive at all. I make almost all my own bowhunting gear. I reuse it year after year. Now if you are not self sufficient and you are a gadgeteer, then yes, you can needlessly spend away but it is not at all necessary to do so just to hunt. I could hunt for the rest of my life with the gear I have and never spend another dime except for gas to get to my location. On the flip side, I could waste a ton of money on useless crap sold in magazine to keep up with the Joneses mistakingly thinking I needed those things to hunt.

    Spent nearly $30 on a backpack....I know I should've spent $130+ on a Badlands (just kidding).

Like some others have stated don't get all caught up in the latest and greatest "gadgets" and "wish list items". Deer have been slayed for decades....heck centuries with gear that was literally ancient. No offense, but I do not remember studying any Indian tribes that utilized Scent Loc suits, FOB for their arrows, mechanical BHs, Ozonics units, $12,000 Gator electric vehicle, thousands of different scent products, a 330 FPS+ bow, etc.... They did get to use a lot of "horsepower" though!!

    Expensive compared to what?

I've spent alot more $ on fishing gear the past couple years than I have on hunting stuff.

I am a gear freak! Any hobbie thats fun is expensive. It's pretty easy to spend a couple grand every year on hunting related stuff. You can't take it with you and you never know when your number will be up. Embrace it!
