a little bit of both i must admit. me and a very close buddy of mine have a passion for deer hunting like so many others have. we put money and stuff like that on who gets the biggest deer of the year, but when it comes down to it we always have fun and support each other. if i kill a bigger deer or he does, we always seem to have a good time.

I do most of my hunting by myself, but wish I had more people too hunt with to share more memories....I'm the type that will hunt my butt off all the time, but will help someone else out just as much, like my little nephew when he goes with me. I hope he text me saying he got his first deer. I think I would leap out of the tree in excitement!

No not now but yes when I was younger. Looking back at it, I had a disease that finally ran it's course. I'm a recovering deeraholic now:deer:

You know you have it bad when you wake up in the middle of the night sweating thinking about the next days hunt!

With my Dad and the rest of the guys in our hunting lease we are definetly a little competitive. Dont get me wrong we are very excited for each other when one of us harvests a mature buck. But we do have a big buck contest each year. If I was really competitive I wouldn't share all of the trail camera pics with them.

I have two freinds from ct that come down to hunt with me, as well as my brother from Mi. I try to put them on deer each year. Most years the opertunity is there for them. I work my butt off to keep them in deer so no I want them to do well.

I hunt alone but I tend to find out that when one of us kills a very nice deer we are very happy for each other. On the other hand you want to kill one just as good but that is a every day thought for any hunter to kill a big one. So my answer to your question is YES/NO. In some ways I say yes and in some I say no. I think it is more of a self goal than to top your buddies but it is always nice to beat them out for the year. It is more of wanting to top the charts in Pope & Young and Boone & Crockett clubs for a lot of hunters so if you say that is competition I say that all of us are in that boat! Plus you want to see your buddies to do well so that they are not over saying "I did not kill any deer can I have some of your meat!" LOL I like my freezer full!

I am like many others on here. Not competitive with others, but mostly with myself. There have been some very good points here.

Greg/Mo and I are the same here. I'm competitive with myself. I strive to be better than the year before, hunt harder, hunt smarter. Sure, I think everyone wants to be the guy who hauls the big buck into town. But its about my personal goals. Am I happy when someone else put a big buck on the ground? Heck yeah. I love seeing bucks, mine or someone elses. Seeing someone else with a big buck motivates me even more.

Sure, I take part in "contests". The friendly kind. Its more about sharing and relishing in each others success than about beating the other guy.

When it comes to me and my 2 brothers, yes we are competitive and naturally it will be this way.

When it comes to just me im with pretty much with what the great Greg/Mo stated.
