I know its been awhile But with Favres recent rip on Aaron Rodgers, it got me to thinking. From 1992 until the NFC Championship game in 2007, Brett Favre could do no wrong in Green Bay. Many were considering him the greatest quarterback to ever play the game. He held all the records, was on the best team, having one of the best years of his career. He was a poster child for "going through hard times" and coming out a role model. Then he threw the interception to Corey Webster. Everything IMO changed after that play. He retired, came back, got traded, had a mediocre year, retired, came back, signed with the Vikings, had his BEST year, lost in the playoffs, cried alot, retired, had an affair with a reporter, sent pictures of his junk out and finished it all by bashing Aaron Rodgers. Now many view him as a washed up dirty old hillbilly. Even Packers fans wont speak his name. Forget that he dominated the league in the late 90's and that he was one of the best in the league up until his retirment in 2010. In your opinion, is Brett Favre going to be looked at as a "Pete Rose", "Lawrence Taylor", "Kobe Bryant", "Randy Moss", "Tiger Woods" type of player? IE- always being mentioned followed with a "yea but he was a crybaby who sent dong pictures out?"
yeah. he did have drinking issues/marital problems ever since he joined the packers, it was just that the packers were better able to hide his behavior from the media. when he left the pack, different story.
Time heals all wounds. Down the road, people will just remember him as a player. There have been many great sports players that have been less than stellar people off the field. Much of that becomes a side story to their sport's career, and does not define it.
Well, his drinking problems and his addiction to painkillers was covered pretty well by the media in the early 90's. They kinda just forgot about it when he won the 3 MVP's and the Super Bowl. Kinda like the media forgot about Ray Lewis being involved in those murders, or Kobe Bryant and his rape, or Big Ben and his rapeS, or Jordan and his gambling...all lost when said player became a "money making hero" by winning a Championship. Sports are alot like politics. Its the unkowns that control it all.
I really hope so Vito, this brings up a good side arguement, Should the Hall of Fame for each sport only look at on the feild accomplishments? I believe they should.
I agree with this point. I believe that in a few years most people will forget the bad and remember what a great player he was.
He's always been the same guy, I think this is a shock to all the Packer fans that looked at him through rose colored lenses for so long...
Don't get me wrong, best QB to play as of yet. It's just fun to see people pounce on their golden child.
I think that depends. If they cheated (PEDs for example) to accomplish those numbers, then I think it should be considered. Drinking, trouble with the law, adultery, etc...no, I don't think those should be considered when discussing the Hall of Fame. I think Hall of Fames are kind of , anyway.
Oh, and is cell phone donging frowned upon? Side note: Chrome doesn't not tell me "donging" is an incorrectly spelled word. If Google accepts it, then it has to be a word. Google knows everything.
The problem is proving it, OR, establishing whats "wrong"? I mean, i bet 90% of HOF caliber baseball players from 1985-2005 were on roids, or peds, or creams or SOMETHING that would be deamed "cheating". Is that still cheating? Or is that just "how it is" now. A "get over it" type of thing. We use electronics in the NFL now, theres different rules, better equipment, better eating and trainign habits. Is that also "unfair" to the players of the past?
Actually no. I despise that show. I think it makes my generation look like a bunch of If Dan hasnt already....
will never be for me. if you ask me what kind of QB he was, i'll tell you the best ever (farve) LB one of the best (taylor) RB one of the best ever (Juice) if you ask me personal life who/how they are/were... i'd tell you to go ask someone who knows them personally. i wont comment, dont want someone lifting me up or cutting me down from what they have heard about me. meet me then tell me what you think. disclaimer... i dont have kids and i know lots of kids look up to famous people... and i can only imagine how tough that must be to tell/explain why their fav player is doing drugs, sleeping with women outside his/her marriage etc. but thats parenting (from what im told) HOF judged on the field only.
