I know this is practically your website but in all honesty neither Swamp nor myself posted anything anti cross bow or even close to butt hurt.

Give me that award! Granted I'm not butt hurt about anything, I just find it incredibly naive and narrow minded of people to bash crossbows as much as they do. If a guy wants to use one, that's his choice. Let the DNR make the rules, if it's legal and a guy wants to use it, then I have 0 issue with that.

I've never shot a crossbow and likely never will unless injury/other factor prevents me from shooting my compound but I will continue to debate my opinion on the issue. What really gets me is the "you must be a private land guy".... STOP ARGUING THE POINT OF PUBLIC VS PRIVATE LAND. Seems like the term public land is hard for some people to grasp.

Anyone here who shoots a compound should agree with this. If you have an issue hitting a target there is something wrong.

The DNR does not write laws or regulations. That is done by the state legislature which is more often than not comprised of people with no clue about hunting.

I think that is part of the communication problem some states it is different with the DNR not the legislature writing regulations. Plus different conditions. In Minnesota crossbows are legal during the archery season for the elderly and injured/handicapped.

Thanks for the correction. Have further information on this? Are there advisory boards guiding the legislature on things they may not know about?

Contact your DNR and ask for the contact information for your state legislature committee who deals with your game laws and regulations.

I shoot a compound and I totally agree. Once you have the form and the technique nailed, its not that difficult.

Typically the legislators take what the comishoner submits and goes with it. The legislators may have taken up their agenda from time to time but the vast majority is passed without revision.

Let's not pretend that the State Legislature is not or cannot be swayed by special interest lobbying groups like insurance companies and farm bureaus.

Some of you guys must be fantastic shots. I still need to practice a lot to be a decent shot at 30 yards with a compound. Lol.

Just waiting on my sponsors to show up at my door. If they saw how well I group out to 100 yards they would be blown away. Any day now.

At 20 yards I can barely tell any difference if I shoot once a year or every day. Beyond that distance, I can definitely tell that practice helps. Some years I just limit my shot distance. Moving forward, I think I will just get a good crossbow with a range-finding scope. Problem solved. But, I mostly hunt private ground, so my opinion really has no merit.

I'm not sure what's the rule in MN. But if I understand the rule correctly, a Felon cannot own or possess a firearm. And I'm not sure if a crossbow is considered a firearm. Am I wrong?

If the felon is elderly or handicapped they can hunt with a cross bow.
