I have a work issued BlackBerry. It just seems to me with the I-phone, HTC and Droids the BlackBerry is falling behind. I picked up my friends Droid the other day and thought it was easier to use in 2min. than my BB is after 2 years.
I also have a work issued Blackberry. If I had one of the phones with the larger screens I believe it would get destroyed pretty easy.
BB strength is their security features which is why so many corp IT departments go with BB. I just fininshed my first Iphone/Droid app for a customer, I can tell you the Droid and Iphone will stomp BB in the next 5 years I would say.
I'm thinking that purchasing RIM stock is not a good idea gentlemen. I hope when I get my next phone from work I have a choice on what it is. Gary, Our IT department is very security orientated. Maybe that is why they stick with the BB.
RIM has the play book coming out this year and they now seem to be on the Application bandwagon, but the need developer and Apple and Google have the best right now.
I have a Droid and a Blackberry. The Droid smokes the Blackberry and Blackberry is starting to decline in sales due to the Droids.
Wife and I both had BB's and enjoyed them for about 3 years...........we just got iPhones last week and they are not even in the same league. We are about as far from phone geeks as you can get but we both love the iPhone and have been using them like crazy. Some of the apps are just amazingly useful as well as entertaining. I can just set my phone in front of me at work and listen to anything from a hockey game, my favorite songs, FoxNews or whatever I feel like. I was afraid of the touchscreen texting but it is surprisingly easy to use even for a sausage fingered dude like me. My buddy has a Droid X.........it's OK but too friggin' bulky and I already had a ton of apps for my iPod touch so the iPhone was an easy choice for us.
The Marine Corps are stuck on BB's... I have grown less fond of it, but that is just because the damn thing seems to always be buzzing. There is a ton of concern with the ability for the kids to make Apps on the new platforms that can induce vulnerability into the networks...but they also see the App format as a way to get quick flash to bang for needed stuff. There was just a kid in Afghanistan with the Army that made a app that track the taliban... I am quickly becoming a Luddite and have strayed out of the "kewl" phone realm, our other phone is just a phone with a camera.
I'm not really a "technology" guru. I've owned the BlackBerry, as well as the 3125, Samsung Impression, and, a few other "smart" phones. I only use my phones to make calls(I just started using texts a few years ago, and, it's still weird to me, to receive a text from my mom; she's too old for this stuff !!), text and send photos of moto or hunting related things to friends. I couldn't possibly care less about my phone. Right now, I'm using my "back-up" phone, which I've had for several years. Every time my current smart phone goes down, this phone comes out. It is the most basic phone on the planet, and, it works fine for me . With that said, my brother is the kind of guy that HAS TO HAVE the latest and greatest by way of electronic devices. His iPhone was pretty cool, but, I didn't like that it was touch screen only, that aside, it had some amazing features, and, his new iPhone is supposed to be even more impressive.
