    Just found this out.

I have been dealing with Periodic Leg Movement Syndrome (PLMS.) Went to the doctor and the nurse called and said I was severely iron anemic. Now I have to take iron supplements starting thios afternoon 3X Day. Does anyone know anything about the possible side effects of added iron or the possible causes of being iron deficient. I eat lots of iron rich foods. My test was 7... whatever that means.

you'll definitely want to stay on top of keeping your levels right once you find the right maintenance dose. I'd ask to meet with your doc for him to explain it better to you than a hey heads up phone call from the nurse.

I am anemic but i never take any pills. I always just eat a lot of meat. The only things that i notice is my hands are cold most of the time during the winter and i can get dizzy pretty fast sometimes.

He called me in a prescription that I have to take for a month and then go back to see him again. I eat iron rich foods and very few sweets but my sugar levels are also a touch high. I don't want to over react but my mom is considered terminal with similar issues. I hate taking medicines/drugs of any kind... except caffeine... I delight in a good strong cup of hot black coffee.

Iron supplements tend to make you constipated...other then that I don't recall any effects...

That's certainly good to know ahead of time.

Iron pills make me severely nauseous and make my boobs sore. I still take them every now and then.... but mostly I eat fried chicken liver to fend off anemia. It's tastier and works a lot better.

As I recall, most of the edible organ meats tend to be iron rich. Constipation and upset stomach are the two most common side effects. Though it probably doesn't help much if you don't like liver to mention heart, kidneys, sweetbreads...

My daughter ate about 30 gummy vitamins when she was young and had to go to the ER, fortunately NOT with iron... That was our crash course in iron.

If your boobs get sore, we probably don't need to know...

Guinness is rich in iron. It might help wash the fried chicken livers down haha

I do like hearts and gizzards. Deer heart is my favorite part of the deer; I just can't hack liver. I will leave if I am in a restaurant and someone at the table next to me orders it. Anyway, I started taking the iron pills and do get an almost instant nausea but it passes quickly. There is a quite lengthy list of symptoms I was ignoring that point to iron deficiency: itching, cold, ear ringing, muscle twitches, heart palpitations, restlesness, trouble sleeping and a few others. Lesson learned; before you change your diet or begin an exercise routine, get a good physical.

I am not sure I know what Guinness is. Beer maybe?

FTR... The Bs are fine so far... last time I will mention that. LOL

I had that for years and it just stopped over time. Never went to a doctor for it though.
