So I finally decided that I was going to get on-board with this whole iPod thing. I've been looking at the iPod touch and was planning to pick it up the next time we headed down to Duluth. Half of my use for it would be as an additional web browser and reading eBooks on it....

Then today I see the release of the iPad... I think my plans have changed.

So have you seen it? What are your thoughts?

I have an iphone, ipod nano and a laptop. Personally I see no need for the ipad. I think its a cool looking device and will probably be neat, but its just not for me. And I love Apple products so I was a little surprised it didn't excite me.

It looks cool, but I doubt I ever purchase one. Well, I might once they become obsolete.

Hell, I just got a phone that has a camera. I've never owned an iPod. I don't have internet or cable TV at home. I'm just not one to spend alot on technology.

But I do have all the finest outdoor gear known to man :)

Those are solid reasons to check it out. The itouch is no fun to "read" or surf with, too small, great for music and a quick check of web stuff though.

The apple stuff I have was given to me, nice stuff but I likely would not have purchased it. I have been in the computer biz for close to 3 decades and have never been a big apple fan but I do like the looks of this ipad. I'll give it a couple of years before I decide whether I would own one. In the meantime I'll stick with laptops, notepads and desktops. They can do everything an ipad can do plus much more.

I already have an iPhone, so the iPad is a joke. It's a big iPhone that, as far as I can tell, the only real difference is the ability to perform iWork functions. No way I get one, at least not now. I think Apple was being pretty conservative with this thing. II think they are just putting some "feelers" out there to see how it might do. If it does well enough, the next one (or improvements to this one) could be pretty nifty.

But, if you don't already have an iPhone (or iPod touch) it may be a worth while purchase. The thing is pretty cool, no doubt. But.....I just see no practicle use for it.

Besides loathing everything apple, it's basically an oversized iPhone. Same OS, processor, architecture (I believe A4 or A9), and basically same functionality (in actuality, the video file codecs that are supported are very minimalistic). Is it neat? Sure. Revolutionary? Hardly:D
