Rain coming wednesday. Im going to go set up a mock scrape, and maybe throw a stick at a doe if I see one. But Im not hunting per say. lol.
LOL I'll be watching for a fat turkey if one comes by nothing beats a wild turkey. I thought about doing the mock scrape also that maybe a plan. The rain we get will help quiet things down walking in that's a good thing.
Anyone know where/when the rain is supposed be here Wednesday? Planning on a morning hunt before my classes
Weather man said Wednesday night into Thursday is when most of the rain will fall :/ take it for what it is. Good luck!
I like going here for all my weather Intellicast - Weather Active Map you can get a good up to date radar and daily and weekly weather put in your zip code and save that link to your favorites. Don't be late for classes lol.
I can't believe how fast the off season went. seems like just yesterday i was turkey hunting, dreaming of deer season lol.
Just finished making my Spring bird into some yummy asian bbq jerky. Who will be out tomorrow? Im still holding out for Thursday evening, if it isn't raining to heavy.
I woke up to the same. Luckily I had previously fought the urge to take the day off and planned on working today. Made the drive in a whole lot easier.
Dang it! Should have been out today! Now they are calling for heavy rain tomorrow through the evening!
Looks like I'll get out this weekend looks to be nice and cold Saturday morning in the 30's that knock the blood suckers down lol.
The creek that goes through my land flooded my hunting spot.. Looking like probably a week before deer start cycling through again
Hey guys, Been reading this forum for a couple years but barely ever post. I am relatively new to bow hunting and it's kind of intimidating but this Iowa group seems like a nice place for me to start. I am down here in southeastern Iowa and have a couple decent spots I have permission to hunt this year. Can't believe the season is here already! It seems like just yesterday I was mad because I had to wait so long for October! I have some trail cam pics I can share but what is the best way to post them? If I click on the little picture icon at the top of this window where it says "insert image" will you be able to see a large version of it or is there a better way? Thanks for any help!
Yep that is how you post pictures. Should bring up a box saying add attachments or something like that. Where bouts in SE Iowa. I live in keokuk and hunt in wever. Also hunt some public ground up by argyle during shotgun season.
Got out tonight! And im drenched! Got out of work at 2 made it to the public ground parking area by 2:45. Rain was going to let up sometime it looked like on radar :/ checked the wind walked about a mile in and set up camp. Checked the wind again #$!#%@ it was at my back hmf! Sat for an hour wind never changed, so I decided to move for the winds sake. Found an awesome bottleneck between two large ponds that looked good in areal photos and fantastic in person. It was about 40 yards wide, so I got set up between a thicket and a downed tree. Had about 2 hours of light to no rain couple of does popped up from a bedding area I didn't know was there, and started towards me. From 60 yards away eating as they walked, camera set up and rolling, heart starting to race! Came to within 40 yards and then a another down pouring of rain, they did an about face and bedded back down. Oh well
That story got my heart pumping Locked! I am going to go out for the first time this afternoon and I can't wait! Wesley I hunt a few miles north of Mount Pleasant but I also have permission to hunt a spot just south of DeWitt. Here are some trail cam pics I have gotten this year..
That's a good area. Lot of farms around that area practice good deer management. Lot of big bucks get taken from that area.
Glad you like it! Yeah It was great getting out for the first time! Those are some nice pics, good luck hope you get to put one down! Im in the Black Hawk County area
Whew! First hunt of the season tonight. Didn't get a deer but it was a great way to kick everything off. Had a few of does that almost gave me a shot, had a forker munching 20 yards from my stand for a solid 40 minutes, and then even almost pulled off a stalk. I could not have asked for a better start to the 2014 season and I can't wait to get back out soon!
Awesome! glad you had some good encounters. I went out again AM sit and learned a valuable lesson DON'T BOW HUNT NEXT TO A POND ON OPENING DAY OF DUCK SEASON! that is all I felt so dumb as I sat there being all sneaky in the dark Then BOOM! BANG! POw POW POW!
