I hunted the afternoon yesterday and it was a bust. I might have done better if I setup along a food source though. Next weekend looks amazing though.

First time out today. Had a small 6 point buck at first light. Then a little fork horn harassed a doe for a little while a bit later. Scent checked her and let her be. He hung around for a while and finally meandered away... guess my scent control was good, he walked across my where I walked in, and went down wind of me several times...taking a break and getting warm/catching a little nap before heading back in for the evening..

Went out last weekend, had a group of does come out from a thicket 50 yards from me into some corn and that is where they stayed the rest of the night. Moved the stand the next day and sat that night... they came out 50 yards further down the thicket patch into the corn. No blowing or spooking its just a chess game. Wont get out again until Nov. 11th hope the rut is in full swing by then!

Saw a mature buck chasing tonight. I think things are finally starting to heat up.

Wow! Nice one! Is the story of that guy in the main forum? I saw only 3 deer on the drive to Iowa City 3 days ago 2 were on the side of the road. Today I saw a small buck following a doe in a cut bean field at about 10am. Then I saw a Huge guy with a doe at about 430pm in the back yard of a house in town. Lol things are looking good for this weekend when I get out. stay safe everyone!

Congrats Wesley! And awesome story. I also had a bit of luck my last time out. Been getting this guy—Bob Gnarly—on camera since August and the other night he decided to come inspect my decoy.

Very happy with him to say the least!

Congrats again Wesley, and good luck to everyone else!

Just found out today I’m losing my lease I’ve had for the least 5 years due to a death in the family and land changing hands. So I’m on the hunt for a lease in SE Iowa if anyone sees or hears about one please let me know.

Kind of. Buddy of mine from high school has a 100 acres and he said I was welcome to join him. He is fairly new to bow hunting, but not hunting in general. Told him I’d help scout it and hang some stands, only been so damn busy with work, and he has some health problems come up and we haven’t been able to get together and do anything. May just skip bowhunting this year. Go shotgun season for some meat, and call it a year and hopefully start scouting and working on his land next year.

Any of you Iowa folks know how the hunting around Iowa Falls is? I’m a freshman playing baseball at Ellsworth CC and would love to find some areas around to hunt
