Had them for 4 or 5 years. Was building them up 10 years ago, to go hunt with my Uncle. He pasted away before I could go. So just been waiting to use them when i found someone to hunt with. Not as much fun to go by myself.
VS and holt tag teaming Iowa would be solid, I won’t have 5 till 26’ would be awesome to get a group to go.
I cool to wait til 2026. Give time to maybe get some scouting and line up places to hunt. Lets do this guys!
I’m a liar, just looked it up I have 2 now and will have 3 this year. So I won’t have 5 till 27’. Don’t expect y’all to wait on me! Get out there and kill one!
I spent all weekend in Southern Iowa, walking a few pieces of public ground. In 2 days, I covered nearly 20 miles, and I can definitively say that not all pieces are created equally, nor is there a big buck behind every tree down there. I put on 14 miles scouting three separate pieces on Saturday and found very little buck sign to get excited about. At the end of the day, I wondered if I was insane or if this is just how it is in Iowa. Do their bucks not make rubs or scrapes? Or do I suck at figuring out where the bucks are living? Sunday, we drove almost an hour to a different spot and were rewarded with a much greater number of deer and buck sign. It was the type of stuff that you go to Iowa for. Knowing we had a starting point for next year certainly made the ride home a lot more upbeat. With that said, no, I'm not going to tell you where I was at or what zone I was in.
You know how it is. A person can walk miles upon miles and not find crap, even in the best online scouted areas. And then sometimes you stumble into a goldmine.
There was a lot of old sign, just nothing from the last year or two. My assumption is that some places were hit by EHD harder than others, and that's what we're seeing.
That’s good stuff, glad you saw some light at the end of it all. I had a similar experience this year in KS scouting.
