For all of you looking to hunt Iowa. The IA DNR website does break down draw odds for each zone. Apparently, the point creep is getting a bit out of hand. A buddy of mine from out of state that owns land here said they did not draw a zone 5 archery tag with 5 points last year. It took 6 to be guaranteed. Some will draw with 5, but that sounds like a minimum for that zone now. There are other zones with good hunting that may take fewer points to draw. Also, I have found our DNR office to be very helpful when you have questions. Look up the website, and if you don't find what you need there, give them a call and I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how kind and helpful they will be. I am sure that the wait and expense is frustrating, but there is a good reason why everyone wants to hunt the rut here. It's no different than me wanting to get an Arizona elk tag, to hunt the best areas in the country is very competitive and will only stay good if it is managed accordingly. Best of luck to all of you!

I would advise anyone coming to really do some homework and check out how hard areas were hit with EHD. There were some pretty big die offs in many parts of the state this year.
