Not to sidetrack this thread, but I've hunted whitetails with an outfitter twice and by no means was it anything like this. Unfortunately I think a lot of what we see on TV has warped our sense of reality when it comes to outfitted hunts. Yes, they can prove to be successful and, if you hunt with the right one, you may see quite a few deer. But in most cases you're far from guaranteed a good buck. Most places have legitimate success rates for archery hunts in the 30% range.

Anyways - there's no right answer to this question. It all depends on the person you're introducing to hunting - their level of exposure to the sport prior to this, their level of excitement and enthusiasm about it, etc. There's no doubt if someone can go out for the first couple times and see some deer up close they'll be hooked. If you take them out in the cold to sit for hours and not see anything, they may lose interest.

Why not? IMO I think a lot of us try to make it more difficult and more work than it has to be. Hunting is supposed to be fun and enjoyable. Generally speaking, things that are difficult and take a lot of work aren't either of those things.

Personally speaking, I enjoy a nice easy hunt. :tu:

I guess It depends on how you were brought up. I was brought up to work hard for everything In life, not just hunting. To me If you've gotta try and make things easy for someone to get their Interest In a certain thing, your not showing them the reality of It. There's fun and not so fun things associated with everything In life, It all should be put on the table. Each to their own I guess.

    Earn it for sure.

If I was getting someone new involved I would gage how intense they are before I would take them trekking across mountains all day long. I would want it to be fun for them, and that might mean a little less intense then I like.

I believe in earning it because they also learn the value of the camp life and all that goes into hunting. Not just killing..
