I have noticed after reading numerous threads over the years.... That almost everyone on the 'net likes to portray themselves as perfect. 99% of all the guys on the board have never done anything wrong or never would, they all have the most upstanding ethics...

But, in real life I probably only know maybe 2 guys who have outstanding ethics and I know A LOT of hunters.... I am not saying that everyone else is a slob (a couple / few are though) but none of them are perfect.

I am not calling anyone a liar as I am sure many / most do have a great ethic code... I just want to know why real life ethics are so much different than on the 'net?

Are your real life ethics different than your net ethics?

I believe it is human nature to want to be portrayed in the best light possible.

The "net" is a great place to be someone perfect. Most folks on the net don't know you, so they don't know what kind of a slob you really are. I think it all goes back to chatrooms, where the guy is trying to impress a girl he's never seen. Not that I would know.

I have broke a few game laws in my day? I am sure I have although nothing serious.

Have I been in my treestand past legal light a couples times? I am sure I have.

Have I crossed a property line while scouting? Yep, I sure have.

ave I cut shooting lanes on public land? Bet your ass I have....

I never did claim to be perfect though ;)

Hmmmmm, he brings up a valid point. Honestly I live a much healthier lifestyle than I once did and pretty much live my life the way I portray on this site and others. Though not perfect, I do try to invite others to hunt with me, help others when I can and try to be a good teammate to my peeps in the hunting contests. I do tend to get worked up though and go on verbal assaults in the forums, that is me in real life to a "T".

I find it personally offensive when people get high and mighty over how "good" they are and how bad others can be... self righteous attitudes like that can really drive a wedge between people that would in most circumstances probably be good friends... the 'net allows a certain amount of anonymity that allows people to straddle that high horse nice and tight without fear of social repercussions... kinda like picking your nose while driving... :D

i agree, many have higher 'net ethics' than they probably do in real life...

    *slowly back out of thread*

LOL, this looks like another one of those threads where folks can claim that they are better than other folks. That their real ethics are the same as their net ethics. That they are no different when online or in real life yet "all those other guys" are frauds. Too funny.

Is it ok for me to have different ethics for different game? ;)
Deer I play by the rules. Coyotes...not so much. I've shot them hanging out of a moving truck window with a shotgun blazing, and I do believe that's frowned upon by some. :D

If anything, my internet ethics are worse than my real-life ethics.

I don't post in any ethics threads so therefore you have nothing to compare my real life ethics to.:d

Kind of reminds me of the Internet hunter thread you made. I'm guessing most on here are more honest then given credit for and If not so be It I guess.

I've said it before, I'm not perfect. But when it comes to hunting laws and ethics, I try to do "The Right Thing". While this may bend a hard rule now and then, I don't think I could be called a poacher.

I'm guilty of these things, also. And I've crossed property lines to retrieve deer. If I can see it piled up, and the home owner's house is nowhere in sight, I'll go get my deer. I'll say also that I've never been denied access to a down deer, by any neighbor to the lands which I hunt, so knocking/calling is a formality, anyway.

I don't believe anybody on this forum will state they are perfect, everybody has done something wrong, be it inetnionally or accidental. That doesn't mean that they can't express their opinions on people who are intenionally breaking laws (such as poaching).

The "throwing stones in a glass house" comment is an absolute joke when comparing a guy who accidentally broke a minor game law compared to a guy who is picking off every big buck he sees while jacklighting in Sept.
