http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/01/09/us-usa-cancer-watson-idUSBRE90805N20130109 Thoughts? The comments section is worth a read as well. A bit disheartening when you think about it.
Last time I researched the American Cancer Society they were horrible. VERY LITTLE of the funds raised actually go to research for a cure. They own a trememndous amount of real estate and have highly paid executives. The better organizations lease space or work out of donated office space. The most disturbing thing to me was the fact that most of the board members at that time were owners or executives of companies that actually profited from various forms of cancer treatment. Either durable medical equipment or drug companies. So, cure cancer and they are out of business. Not the most motivated bunch of folks I could put together to push for a cure. There are good organizations out there, but most of the big ones are a farce. Do your research before donating please.
That was a good read. A good start would be to stop funding countries like North Korea and the likes and send money to fund cancer research in addition to.a host of other important things.
I believe cancer could easily be cured, and maybe they already have a cure, but there is too much money in the drugs. With the things the human race has figured out, I refuse to believe we couldn't find a cure for cancer by now. If Magic Johnson gets cancer, he will be cured. You can't convince me otherwise.
I'll have to look that up. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but it does truly make you wonder. It's such a horrible disease, and after watching my mom's best friend of 30+ years suffer for two years before passing, it makes me angry that there isn't more progress. What did everyone think about the argument AGAINST anti-oxidants?
I'd like to believe that, but if there is a cure out there, why did Steve Jobs die? Patrick Swayze? I watched my dad die a horrible death due to pancreatic cancer. I wish there was a cure, but as many others have stated before, the money is in the treatment, not the cure.
It's not just curing, but preventing cancer in the first place. Chemical companies (owning companies like Revlon) help to raise $$ for research on a cure (provided by pharmaceuticals owned by the same chemical companies) for something that their products have been linked to causing. Makes me want to buy a franchise in White Castle and a Septic pumping company. The I too can get you coming and going.
I'm not either, but like you said, it sure makes you wonder. The human race is pretty damn smart. They have figured out some incredible crap. Look at the diseases that were cured back in the day before big pharmaceuticals were major players. They cured things. At a time and age when we are more advanced than ever, we can't cure cancer? C'mon.
Take off the tin foil hats guys. Scientists all around the world are racing around the clock to find a cure and prevention (vaccine possibly) to AIDS, Cancer, and other leading causes of death. To think otherwise gives dry companies waaaaay too much credit. Whoever gets an aids vaccine approved will make money hand over fist....an several companies are working on it with a few getting "close" some think. I strongly believe in my lifetime AIDS will follow the path of Polio in being eliminated.
Riiiiiight. Like we are going to believe you. We have been close since the 80s. Or before you were born.
And part of the problem is that you simply can't cure the inevitable.... Death. People are living on average literally TWICE as long as folks just three to four generations before us. DNA replicates billions of times daily for our life. To expect zero errors in the natural process for an 80 year span is unrealistic...and the transcription errors only increase in frequency with age. I think we now are wrapping our heads around why cancer happens and how many deaths that would be mislabeled even 75 years ago happen. A cure in the form of a virus is much more realistic for Cancer than a cure though.... AIDS I expect a cure and eventual vaccine prevention. They are getting scarily close.
Lmao you are referring to a time it was called gay cancer. They had no clue what it was back then. I've actually had to do a project on the research behind the new HIV Meds and why it's such a hard problem to solve... It's really interesting. Ill say this, if the human body wasn't soo damn good at fighting foreign bodies in our body in the first place, AIDS could be cured. Getting the body to accept these Meds that are nothing more than another virus trying to penetrate our body is the main problem they face.
I was referring to cancer. We all know you guys sit on the balconies at your penthouses and yuck it up. "Then believe there is no cure! Idiots!" <laughing hysterically>
