I wonder what their angle is (those who want the list published). I can see this (if it passes) backfiring, though. IMO, if a list was published, it would make me want to be ON it.
exactly GMMAT its like giving the criminals a list of every home that doesn't have protection by smith&wesson... not to mention rights to privacy issues
If this is upheld and the State Police release the information it could be devastating. Imagine how many homes in Illinois have to Gun Safe in them Nothing like going on vacation and coming home to a house that is picked of all valuables and weapons
It has pros and cons in my opinion. While it does notify thieves what houses have weapons, it could also place a target on people that have weapons as well. All a thief has to do is get lucky and find a house that doesn't have proper gun safes and boom, they pick up a few guns that aren't connected to them in any way. It also paints a mark on the non-firearm owners. Pretty stupid all around if you ask me, but it doesn't really surprise me... Illinois is always backasswards. Edit: I can also speak for our house as an example... we only have one gun safe with an electronic keypad that actually PROTECTS our guns. There is no way in hell we could fit all of our guns in that one safe, and our other gun cabinet locks, but all you have to do is break the glass pane in it and you've got instant access to about 10 shotguns.
I dunno. If I'm on the internet looking for houses to break into....the LAST one I'm gonna pick, is one I KNOW HAS GUNS!
I'd like someone to explain what public interest is being served by publishing the list. More liberal BS from Chicago, plain and simple. Maybe someone should start a push for residents to let their FOID cards expire.....since we are the only state in the nation that requires one.
OR I'm gonna stake out the ones that do during vacation season and go pick up some easy access to untraceable firearms... not that I'd ever consider such a thing...
Yep, middle of winter and snow still sitting in the driveway with no tire marks. Check the county tax records for the owner information and then the gun owners database. Cut phone lines or disable security system if they are idiots with a Brinks sign and help yourself to all the Gats you can carry.
While that could certainly happen 95% of the crooks I read about are dumber than dirt and I wouldn't give them credit enough to check for tire marks let alone tax records LOL. I check the police reports a lot for Southern MD and, IMO, most of those crooks can't think 5 minutes into the future let alone make a plan. I am in no way trying to defend that dumbass idea to publish the list but it wouldn't cause me to worry about break-ins any more than I do now.
Criminals don't want you to be home when they break in. I don't think it takes a whole lot of brain power to look up the list, find a gun owner that is not home, and break in...
These #&$heads are going to keep pushing the wrong buttons and someone is going to get a eyepoked out
