As many of you know I work for the University of Dallas in Irving Texas. We are across a freeway from Texas Stadium, the former home of the Cowboys. This place is smack dab in the middle of the D/FW metromess, I mean metroplex.:p Anyway, the University owns several hundred acres of land along the Trinity river. I have seen and posted about deer being sighted there in the past. Alas, Dallas county does not have any legal deer season. However feral hogs and varmints are legal using archery gear. Yesterday I was doing some prep work for next weekends "groundhog day keg party". A university sponsored annual blowout held in the riverbottom woods. While walking along the river bank I saw tons of feral hog sign. This is about 5 minutes from my office. I'll be putting a cheap feeder out there after the beer bash to see if I can attract any hogs to a possible ambush sight. I thoroughly enjoy hunting feral hogs. They are a blast to hunt and make great table fare. This could turn into something really good for me. Get off work at 4:00, hunt for a few hours until traffic dies down and then make the drive home. YAHOOOO!
Good deal. I'm thinking I may start hunting after work for hogs around Lake Lavon. 20 minutes from work and it's archery only. We put in for the draw that was held the other day but didn't get picked. They gave away 11 spots with exclusive rights from Feb-April I think. So I'll have to wait till after April
I'd be afraid to stick an arrow in anything that big. I'd just make it mad and it would knock me out of the tree!
I would shoot it then it would just stare at me with red in it's eyes and steam coming from it's nose. I would then say, "I was just kidding, can't you take a joke?".
Greg. Thats great news mate, count me in. There are plenty of feral hogs around South Lake as well the rich home owners are getting their gardens and manicured lawns ripped up:p:D I was asleep when you called I worked last night and didn't get to bed till 6 this morning. We'll get Bob out there with his shot gun and bird shot to shoot it in the nut sack like he did to the one out at PK lake:D
Greg, that's about the best idea I've heard in a long time and it all makes sense.... just so you can get home faster :D :D :D
