I was out shed hunting today and I found an old shed. I immediately recognized the deer it was from. The buck was named Medusa. I shot him two years ago so the shed was three years old. Still in good shape for its age. Happy to have found it. It the same buck I have in my avatar. 37ED7955-C84B-45AE-890F-4BD48236B4CF.jpeg 1B397080-C34F-47AF-9F51-3BE2F1355AE7.jpeg 7974666A-68CD-4239-9463-78D6ECF27FFC.jpeg 5E3579C8-E59C-4F9E-BB3F-8B9630B36EC0.jpeg

Cool they sure don't make it that long around here. I watched a squirrel drag a yearling rack drop to a tree base, chew it into sections and burythe thing. Woodchucks and porcupine are great shed hunters as well...

Great find! I did that once. I found the shed to a buck I shot 2 years before. So it laying there for 3 years. It was in tall grass beside a creek. It was almost in perfect condition other then some green staining.

Unusual that a shed would last, as mentioned, forest critters chew them for the calcium. As soon as m foot heals and it quits raining (not for days), I plan on hitting the woods to scout and hunt for sheds.

I have about 1000 oaks on my property hence I have an unbelievable amount of squirrels a shed has zero chance of lasting 24 hours. Congrats on finding the shed of a deer you killed pretty cool.
