My bait hadn't been getting hit the last few days of baiting, and It was getting demolished, everynight. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why they shut off. I figured, acorn drop and berries. It was the ONLY thing I could think of, and even then, they should have been on my bait. Especially when I pulled a few new tricks out of the hat the last few nights. Well, I found out yesterday that a 300lb+ boar was found near my hunting grounds (easily, and almost positive it was the one on my bait)dead in the ditch with a gun shot wound to the belly. Now, I'm the only one, and everyone knows I'm the only one who bear hunts in about a 3 mile radius. There is one guy, who lives in the farm house down the road from where I enter to my bait. This guy is about 70, and stuck in the "old ways" brags about shooting dogs, poaching deer..yada yada yada. He told me "I bet you're bait will stop getting hit in the next couple weeks, I see the bears every year, always in my yard, and they shut down about this time". Well, this isn't true. I killed one last year at the same time I said, "yeah, maybe" and kept on my way. I have my suspicions, and will be reporting to the DNR. If I find out he did in fact kill this bear, I will be extremely upset. Just thought I'd share.
time to whoop some old ass. lmao that's just an all around bad deal...Should spur you into deer season more entusiastically though. There is always next year for the bears...hope the poaching deal is worked out.
300 lbs bear thats a good Minnesota bear. Thats a shame. What a waste sounds like it was him. Even a poacher wouldn't of left him lay. Kinda funny if he gut shot him you would thing the bear would have died in the swamp instead of on the roadside. Was he shot right there you think?
That sucks Kyle!! This bear hunting stuff Is hard enough the way It is. A guy don't need some idiot trying to play tough guy on our bear population!!:evil:
Thats a shame Kyle, its usually the dog runners that cause our Bears to quite hitting the baits once season starts.
I hope that dog running stuff Is never legalized here In Minnesota or I'm afraid the same will happen here that has happened with you.
I hope no dogs as well. I heard them across the st. croix river when I was fishing the other weekend. I was like, now that is something I would never do. As far as being shot right there, I really don't have a clue. Almost HAD to be. We own the land on the side of the road it was found on. And accross the road, that land owner would never do something like that. It would have to run from our land, or his. I also saw a decent size bear in our field the weekend before laying down, when I was spotlighting. I'm thinking someone else saw the same, and took him from the road. In all honesty I have no idea why a gut shot bear would be laying in the ditch, there. And yes 300lb is def a great bear for MN, especailly East Central, MN.
Its amazing some of the stories I hear up in Northern Wisconsin from old timers and how they think they can still shoot anything at anytime.
