I live in a very quiet subdivision in a county where not much happens. That was not the case today, however. My cop neighbor goes on a shooting rampage killing his ex-wife (while their kids were on-looking) and then flees the scene and goes on to shoot & wound a VA State Trooper. All this transpired before two more State troopers shoot him down. He's currently in the hospital praying he was dead. I've never liked the guy and never felt "safer" having a police officer live in the neighbor. He constantly sped through the neighborhood (residential zone) with his antennas whipping in the wind and was involved in a motorcycle accident last year in front of my home due to his speeding. He was also involved in some sort of police scandal a couple years back. Not even sure why he is/was still a cop. The wife and I actually looked at his home twice while we were house shopping but chose one down the street. Crazy stuff so close to home. http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/05/30/virginia.shooting/index.html?hpt=T2
yikes Donnie! I guess getting divorced from someone you dislike isn't enough so you kill them, and then shoot and try to kill one your brothers in the police force. Dirtbag.
Too bad the guy had to go after the ex-wife and the kids. It's alway's weird when this stuff hits close to home.
It will certainly be interesting on how this all plays out. Its going to be weird not seeing his cruiser go up/down the street with his K-9 barking the entire time.
Just learned from the local news that the State Trooper that was injured had his 36th birthday today. Glad he's gonna make it.
Suicide by police maybe? How did he stay on the force so long with his background. I'm sure there's some more on this guy you havn't heard about.
Unfortunately very likely true.... Prayers for the child/children who will now be without BOTH parents due to this jackhole's actions. Too bad they have him in a hospital treating his "life-threatening" injuries rather than just let him die and be done with it.
As bad as it sounds, it's pretty much the truth. Look at what it takes to get fired from all unions... auto, teachers, public.... Indy is going through something very similar. A cop hit a guy on a motorcycle and it killed him. Well it came out that his blood / alcohol was way over the limit. After looking at his record he's been suspended and has had accidents multiple times. It just bothers me because I can't get away with that type of behavior at my job, but people like that can, when they're supposed to be setting the example. Also, a big thanks to the cops behind me in line at wal mart the other day. In uniform with a bout $300 worth of booze, great example for the kids.
It's funny this thread sorta took this turn... I was heading to the grocery store yesterday to get some more hot dog buns for the kids and I passed a patrol car on the side of the road with his lights on. The officer was in the front yard of a house talking with a family and I swear he was 300 lbs if he was an ounce. My first thought was "How in the HECK does a guy like that keep his job?!?"
The county in which I live has a very professional police force. They are expected to maintain grooming standards and physical fitness standards throughout their career. They have a six month police academy that is physical fitness heavy, discipline heavy, and standards heavy. If you cannot take it, you wash out. Indy, if a police officer in uniform purchased alcohol like that in uniform where I live, they would be in big trouble. And if they took that same alcohol and put it in their cruiser, BIG trouble.
And that is the way it should be. The Mayor of Indianapolis put out a no tolerance policy for that behavior, but I don't live in that county. The officers I do know personally in my town / county are extremely good.
Dang Finch, that is getting to close to home. I just hope the kids get through life with no more bumpy roads. This happened close to my home about 5 years ago. The guy shot and killed his wife then turned the gun on himself while the kids watched in horror.
Actually it's quite easy for us to get fired, but that's neither here nor there. That's crazy, Finch. I feel so sorry for the child having to witness that, and now won't grow up with a mother. As for cops, I can't/won't say a thing about them since I extremely happy with how quickly they responded to my wife's incident last week, and took control of the situation.
Watched the evening news and got a little update. The suspect is evidently still in critical condition. They divorced in 2004 with the sheriff's deputy making the child support payments but that changed a few years ago and the ex-wife had to start paying. She owed a little over $24,000 in back child support to the deputy. They had two kids together, one was 12 (the one suspected of witnessing the crime) and a 7 year old. I feel really badly for the kids.
State to state it is different for teachers, I understand that. Indiana until recently has been at the forefront of "ridiculous". Don't get me wrong, some of my immediate family members are teachers. Just like any profession there are some that are great, and some that are aweful. I do apologize as that was a generic statement that would not hold accurate in all states. I have just been doing a lot of research on teachers unions here because I have children coming up and want what's best for them. Getting back to the topic, the cop that hit a guy on a motorcycle and killed him had his blood test omitted from evidence yesterday because it was not taken correctly. Given, that's a loophole in the law, not the doing of a union... or was it...
