http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-fo...ruiting-drugs-program-will-musc#ixzz1rZBeceC9 You all know by now that I've always been an Urban Meyer fan, but ever since he left UF, it's been harder and harder to like him. I supported his decision and the reasons why he left, even though they didn't really make any sense. But, over the last year, it was clear (at least to those who follow UF's program closely) that he had run the program into the ground with poor recruiting decisions, playing players out of position, pampering players, and just a complete lack of focus. The above article confirms all the suspicions Gator fans have been having over the last year. Don't get me wrong, I think Urban Meyer, when invested, is the best college football coach in the country. Yes, even better than Nick Saban. But when it comes down to it, he's a very, very sketchy guy.
Everyone outside of Florida fans thought he was quitting goes the going got tough. Family was just a lame excuse. This is nothing new.
The reasons why he left aren't new. However, the Percy Harvin situation, pegging players as "injured" to sit them out of games due to university mandated rules for failed drug tests, the "Circle of Trust," and him losing the player's respect are all new issues.
Sure, but not at all surprising. The two "slimiest coaches that haven't been caught yet" were Tressel and Meyer. With Tressel off the list, that just leaves Meyer. I'm still waiting for his violations to come to light...which I'm sure is another reason he tucked tail and ran from Florida. The NCAA knows something.
This is just another garbage story, created by yet another Buckeye/Urban Meyer hater. Plain and simple. It's the "E" version, or better yet, an "MTV" version of sports reporting. The "lack of control" is an interesting issue. However, I would assume that if this were true, he has learned from it. How could one not? Now, I'd like to ask you guys two questions: 1. Would this be a "story" if Meyer were not currently the head coach at Ohio State? Be honest. 2. On recruiting and NCAA player violations... do you honestly believe that these practices are never used by "your" team, coaching staff or players?
Of course not. Every elite team skirts the rules here and there, but some do it with a bit more tact and class than others. Meyer is known throughout college football as a slimy, classless prick. You do not get that reputation for nothing.
It brings me tremendous joy knowing that Michigan fans hate Meyer.... Here's hoping they find some more tOSU related things to hate as well
I am a huge Florida Fan and am very thankful for the two titles Urban brought, But I loathe the slimy joker, for what he did to the program he is a bad human being and hope the wolverines own him every single year. I am a lil disappointed it happened at Florida but we will rise above it. Second how much of a slimy sob can you be to recruit against yourself. "Diggs, the second-highest rated wide receiver in the country, had narrowed his list of potential schools to Maryland, Florida and Ohio State. For more than a week following National Signing Day on Feb. 1, and before Diggs eventually signed with Maryland, Meyer relentlessly pursued Diggs. Multiple sources told Sporting News that Meyer—who won two national championships in six years at Florida and cemented his legacy as one of the game’s greatest coaches—told the Diggs family that he wouldn’t let his son go to Florida because of significant character issues in the locker room." He created the Character Issues at Florida. slimy sob
so it appears that OSU has went from bad (Tressel) to worse with the hiring of Meyer then....LOL...good for them..couldn't happen to a better program...The Ohio State !!!!!!!
I tend to not believe the retoric about coaches being "slimy" until solid evidence comes out. Everyone was crowing the same thing about Calipari in the college basketball world (despite the NCAA clearly stating he had zero involvement in either incident and other head coaches having nothing but classy things to say about him). Is Urban Meyer a terrible person? Possibly. Does he cheat recruiting? Possibly. But one thing is for certain, no one on this board and 95% of the writers of these stories have absolutely NO clue to the truth. We like to speculate and assume things, and often run with fabricated stories as fact. No one who is calling Urban a slime ball has ever even carried a conversation with the man. And Florida fans complaining about a coaches 6 year stint that landed 2 national championships and arguably the best overall college player of all time are completely delusional. That is one heck of a run!
Most Florida fans are very thankful for what Urbs did while at UF. Like I said, when he's invested, I think he's the best coach in college football, and he was all in all but one year coaching the Gators. His results speak for themselves. He recruited the best players, demolished rivals, won big games, and won championships. The man has got it figured out. What irritates Florida fans is the way he left. Many fans, myself included, were very forgiving of his reasons when he left UF. He said he was sick, and nobody had any reason not to believe him, so we did. Heck, even I still think it's the biggest reason he left, and I honestly believe that if the tOSU job wasn't available, he still wouldn't be coaching. But he built UF into a true powerhouse in the toughest conference in college football, churned out NFL players who are succeeding in the league, and his assistants landed head coaching jobs and most have done quite well for them. Whether or not you believe what you read in the article (and I don't believe 100% of it either, but there is some truth in every rumor), he broke the program. He recruited players that didn't fit the system, started recruiting players from California and Texas that, while they had a lot of stars beside their name, the time he spent recruiting them would have been better spent keeping players in state, thus allowing FSU to catch up to UF in recruiting over the last couple years. The depth Florida had last year was scary. On defense, their starting 11 were some of the best in the country, but their 2 deep was terrible, almost non existent in some cases, which is why they got beat up throughout the course of a game. So most Gator fans (those whose Orange and Blue glasses aren't too dark) realize what Urban did and how great of a coach he was, but are repulsed by how he let the program slip under his watch, how he didn't want to fix it, and how when he tried to fix it (the 2010 season), he likely set the program back a couple years with his lack of focus and investment.
Worst case he left it in the shape he found it right? Still an amazing run. Very reasonable and logical response though, usually the most outspoken among a fan base are the ones who don't reflect the overall mentality of the average fan. I like targeting the 1% of outspoken idiots, usually found in espn comments section on articles lol
Also, we hear zero whining/accusations from Bowling Green and Utah admin, atheltetic staff and fans. These are places where Meyer also found a tremendous amount of success.
