I used to have a friend who sold insurance and would always brag about what a great salesman he was. I would ask him how hard is it to sell a product that is required by law to have.

I work property/homeowner claims. You are right about discovery and supplemental, insurance cannot pay for what it does not see and there is a process for it. I currently have a supplemental that was submitted 21 days ago to an "good handed" desk adjuster, I wonder if I hear from them today, the last day they technically have to respond.. So you're right they're not delaying this at all. Even when proper documentation and a professional attitude were provided. Even by your own admittance, when somebody is maybe frustrated by the whole process and gets an attitude with you, you yourself delay the claim by "misplacing" said document. Speaking of "bad faith", out of 250+ claims I handle a year about 10-15% are text book examples of bad faith and end up in court or with a Public Adjuster. I have one such claim right now, insurance denied the valid claim and it would have only cost them $9K, they just settled for $28k.

I am a preferred contractor for State Farm but that doesn't mean that I do any job for less than whats owed or Xactamate pricing, nor will I do Adjustments. We are a 40 year old roofing and construction company still owned and operated by the man who started it and have never changed names. That's saying something in the roofing industry. A good contractor can walk a policyholder through the process with very few hiccups, my only real grind is when the insurance company makes me out to be the bad guy damn well knowing that if I am asking for something it is warranted in order to do the job to manufacturers specs or State code all while protecting my warranty. I mean, if it is a line item in Xactamate it is applicable it wouldn't be there if it wasn't. I work in Oklahoma and NW Arkansas, I have gone to Texas before but hopefully never again. Also, since mechanics are able to eat deductibles the general public thinks roofers should too. BS, total BS. $10K roof with a $2400 deductible, when is the last time you went to Best Buy and they said "sure, knock 24% off everything in the score, we just price things for the hell of it."
