I bought the blue stick for my inserts ... I am currently testing the standard vs 100 grain brass inserts ... the brass ones seem to loose adhesion after a few shots into the.bag ... any help out there?
Well this year I have decided to do all my own stuff since there isn't a bow shop within 30 minutes of me ... the stuff I bought was Bohning Ferr-L-Tite and it has worked for the aluminum inserts fine ...so far at least .. but the brass ones are kinda shiny ... I prolly shoulda rubbing alcohol-ed the inside of the arra ???? Where the heck are the techies?!?!?!?!?
Devcon extra strength 5 minute epoxy gel is what I bought for inserts glue. It was a little cheaper than the Goat Tuff. The PSI strength is 2500lbs per square inch. I've got 75 grain broadheads all the way to 125 grain broadheads. Our inserts are 18 grains. My wife will be using the 75 grain and I'll be using the heavier broadhead to make up for the stiff 340 spine arrows I'm using.
Well excuuuuuse me! That Ferr-L-Tite stuff is crap...has been for me anyway. Goat Tuff should give you zero problems. It has been good to me. When I am building arrows, I usually take a .22 cal bore brush and scratch up the inside of the shaft where the insert will go. Then I use Q-tips soaked with rubbing alcohol to clean it out. Goat tuff the insert in and "forget about it!"
The brass inserts are smooth and pose a problem for any glue. What I do is take a file or something similar and score the insert, rough it up a bit, and then use the glue. The little valleys created by the scoring seem to create greater adhesion. I will also take a .22 cleaning brush and rough up the inside of the shaft just a touch. I have found that when the insert surface and shaft surface are too smooth no glue adheres very well.
OK.... I can't believe how well these arras fly, Bruce ..... I am grouping at 40 yards already 3" ... and I just started shooting YESTERDAY ...
