What do you guys use when you are hunting in areas where the mosquitos are thick? I will be hunting a new area this season that is part wetlands. I have done a few sits already just to scout things out and am realizing quick that I will need to do something about the bugs so I don't spook deer with my constant swatting...

Full bug jacket or a Thermacell. Now if you were in the North, black flies are extremely vicious right now so any insect repellent would only be a marinade to them.

Before a Thermocell I used - No Stinkin Bugs, made by Robinson Outdoors (Scent Shield). Work good. Scent free.

Thanks, I have been checking out permethrin and am intrigued, especially since it is odorless

Spray it on clothes (away from cats as it's toxic to them) or use the dip, let dry. That's it. Good for like 6wks or 6 washes if I recall. It's not gonna keep mosquitos away but will ticks and chiggers (most of the time).

As stated permethrin will keep them from landed on your clothes and keep ticks, chigger away but they will find bare skin to suck some blood. It does smell at first so you will need to spray ahead of time and let them air out. Not for the skin.

Freezing temperatures usually do the trick.

^^THIS^^ x1000!! I also treat all my hunting clothes and gear with Sawyer's Permethrin. It helps with repelling mosquitoes and ticks!

I've had the best luck with Thermacell. I'm still not sure about Permethrin. They talk about using it here at work but I'm unsure what happens if you start to sweat through your clothing.
We use it along with another chemical to kill things around our bee hives and on the potato plants. It is definitely a killer to certain insects.

Allegedly safe if not applied to skin and in low concentration. 0.5% concentration is what is typically used on clothing and higher concentrations for pets and farm purposes.

If in doubt refer to manufacturer directions or MSDS.

Peretherum treated clothing (similar to sawyers soak process) is what the military used to protect themselves in Afghanistan when I was there. no problem I'm aware with sweating. I've used it on all my outdoor clothes for the last 12 years. great stuff. only caution I was told was not recommended on underwear, socks or t-shirts. so I do all my pants and shirts and then use a spray bottle with it to spray my boots. with all the crap ticks carry IMO its worth using.

I must admit. I love ️ the thermacell. I've had instances in the rainy seasons when I had 2 thermacell lit and skeeters were ballistic. I don't ever go in the woods without my Shannon bug jacket. I don't wear the pants much but always the jacket. I also just bought Shannon gloves too.

Permethrin/ 2 thermacell/ Off combo. We deal with those Gallinapper mosquitos. They are 20x the size of a normal mosquito. The combo I mentioned above Ticks, chiggers, and mosquitos have a hard time with
