So, I hate ticks. I always find a few on me every year while hanging trail cams and stuff, that's to be expected. But this is my first spring/summer in my house, and I'm covered in ticks!

I've got about 3 acres of yard that runs along the edge of a tract of timber, and a 7-8 acre CRP patch. Every day I'm picking ticks off of me. 3 of them today. I mow the yard regularly, and I mow it short, because I hate mowing any more than I have to. I've got probably 20 trees in the yard, and probably 1/2 of them are on the fence line bordering the CRP patch.

I don't really know how to combat them. I've heard of using a 2' strip of mulch between the CRP/woods and my lawn... but thats alotta mulch!!! There's some knee high bushes, short decorative grasses, and flowers along one side of the yard that I may end up taking out, but I don't know if it would do any good.

I figured I'd designate 1 outfit to be my mowing outfit, and I'll spray it in Sawyers.

That's about all the ideas I've got, not sure what else I can do other than the mulch and spraying my clothes regularly.

    Any ideas?

You can spray your yard a few times a year to kill off the ticks. No harm to the grass and it works great. Grandparents always did it.

Treat your clothes in permethrin though and your problem is solved whether they are there or not. You will not get a tick when using it right, it's as simple as that.

Sprinkle some bags of Sevin dust around your yard

Headed out to rural king to buy some Sawyers and 7 here in a bit. I found 3 on me last night (after showering twice). Went to sleep, woke up this morning, and had another crawling up my arm.

Good Grief... you're infested alright! I'd go batty if that was happing to me.

Perhaps spraying DEET around the yard would help. Where do you live that the ticks are that numerous (I sure hope it's not in upstate NY).

I'm with tacklebox ^^^... my skin is crawling just thinking about your problem... Best of luck in dealing with the critters!!!

Look into Tempo. Not sure if it will work on ticks or not. I use it around all of our buildings/bins etc., and works great for lady beetles, boxelder bugs, spiders and so on. It's spendy but worth every penny. Worth looking into.

Yeah it's not fun! I've never had to deal with it before. Needless to say, I didnt sleep much last night. My whole body was "ticky". I live in central IL, I think my biggest issue is that I have a CRP patch north of my house, west of my house, woods south of my house, and CRP east of my house. I can look out my windows at any given time and see deer. We didn't have this problem last year, but we didn't get moved in til aug/sept. I'm thinking this year is just exceptionally bad, because I usually only find 2 or 3 ticks a year crawling on me, but last week while turkey hunting I found 8, came home showered and mowed, found 4, showered and went to bed, woke up to one crawling up my leg. Didn't sleep much that night either...

Sevin in the yard, but we use the concentrate and mix with water and spray. Spray your clothes with a water vinegar mixture and that will keep them off your clothes.

LOL thats nothin, two years ago I can back from an afternoon turkey hunt and as I was walking back up to the house I felt something on my belly. Lifted up my shirt to find maybe 20 plus ticks on my belly, walked around to the back porch to undress and ya wouldn't believe what I found.... If I had one tick on me there were thousands, I yelled into the house for my wife to come help me, she walked out and freaked the F out! She was so freaked she couldn't even bring herself to help me get the majority off so that I could do something about it. Anyway all I could figure was that I had crawled through a nest of them or something. IT WAS HORRID

Kinda makes Hookers white trash neighbors seem like welcome guests huh?

Get your self some free range chickens, they will clean them up for free.

Not a fan of the tick. I will second the permethrin treatment, it does wonders.

Our little dog got into a nest of them one time. He had thousands of ticks smaller than a pin head on him.

Seriously, a few aerosol cans of permethrin to spray whatever pants you are wearing outside and you are golden.

I'd for sure treat the yard as well, but I haven't had a tick on me in a few years now due to this. I once found over 400 ticks on me at one time several summers ago lol

Same thing happened to me last spring. I felt one crawling on my arm, I looked down and was covered in them below the waist. I flipped a ****.

Field mice are a big part of the tick population. Start killing those little suckers.

I woke up at 3:30 this morning and could feel one crawling up my back while laying in bed. Gross

You'd think the -30 f temps during the winter would kill those Lyme disease carrying critters!
