This Am was opening day in Indiana and I felt really ready, that is until I got to my spot. I dropped off my brother-in-law on one side of the property and then went around the mile to go in where I go. I was driving his truck and I didn't know how his alarm system worked. I locked the doors pryor to shutting them and the alarm goes off. There I am standing in the dark trying to fiqure out which is the off button for the alarm. I get the alarm off after about a minute and continue on to my stand. I get to my ladder stand only to find the bottom two sections lying on the ground and the upper half just hanging in the tree. It is a double ladder so there are four spots you have to line up to put the sections together, not an easy task in the dark. I tried it once and didn't make it, so instead of messing aroiund with it in the dark, I decide to wait for it to get light to try again. It gets light and I finally get the sections back together. Meanwhile, My brother-in-law calls me and he had gotten lost on the way to his stand. He decided to wait till light and then make his way to the stand. He gets to the stand and pulls his bow up only to discover that his quiver had become dislodged at some point and is not on his bow. He has to get down and retrace his steps and finally locates his quiver. All in all a pretty comedic day, especially since we are both very experienced hunters. Total dear spotted; five bucks, mostly small and about a dozen does. And one big dose of humble pie. Pass the salt will ya, I want to lick my wounds. Blessings......Pastorjim
How the heck did your two bottom sections come off ? did someone take it part on you ? .........yeah it sounds like you both had a heck of a day .....lol......at least you got to see deer after all the comotion , Good luck tomorrow if your going out !!!
I'm not sure. It happened before a couple of years ago. I never use the pins in the sections of the ladder because of the added noise. I'm not sure if the tree is moving enough to maybe lift the stand enough to separate the sections or what. I really don't think anyone messed with it cause I would think they would just steal it. I'm going to take a ratchet strap with me next time and attach one end to the bottom section of ladder and the other end to the platform and ratchet it down tight against itself. That should eliminate anymore of that nonsense. Blessings.......Pastorjim
Yeah , the ratchet strap deal will work , i hear ya with the noisy pins , i have a new BigDog Lancer stand 17 foot with two added extensions makes it 25 foot , when i put it together i just slipped the legs together without using the sleeved 8'' coupler pieces to also attach them together for strength with the pins , well the top section is a heck of lot heavier than my other ones and i folded it in half standing it up , so i lost a section and i put the sleaves on it with the pins and its noisy whin i climb up it , i'm gonna bring some electrical tape or some zip ties with me the next time i go to that stand and solve that issue once and for all .
Anyone thats been doing this for any length of time has had one of them days some where along the line. I killed my third biggest Buck on a day like that, right up to 60 seconds befor I dropped the string! Good luck with the rest of your season Jim.
88 more days to go , and counting ,sounds like that ones going to go down in the history book fer sure !!!! to tell u the truth i have had worse , ever leave for that once and a life time hunt, get there, find out u fergot the bullets, and yer batterys dead ,and u r stuck in the woods for 3 days, before u find a kind soul to give u a jump , it dose get better , but i have had enough!, good luc
Sounds like fun! lol... I like those little reflective bread ties for finding hidden stands in the dark.
