When hunting/looking on a plowed/harrowed field, I do a grid pattern search. I'm looking for chips or other evidence that they were camping/living/working in that area. Once I find evidence, my grid lines become smaller/closer together. Once your eye gets its "flaked edge" look working, you'll be amazed how much more you see.

Another big help for me, I use a cane to flip over the likely stones so I don't spend all of my time and energy bending over.

We have big mounds here scattered about, when I say mounds...I mean medium sized hills that jut sharply up maybe 60-70' in elevation (guessing). Indians used them for camp sites because they could see all around, many folks here used to find a lot of artifacts on top of those. I never asked permission to hunt on them, don't own any of them but the one near the school about a mile out of town, the history teacher back years ago in the 60's-70's used to take the students up on it to look for artifacts and they found quite a bit of stuff there. I always have wondered if these mounds are natural...they look suspicious but with millions of square yards of dirt in them, it's hard to imagine they were built. I've never heard any official archaeological opinion on them.

I don't know about your area but in many parts of the country the natives built "burial mounds" and some were very large. They were built over hundreds and even thousands of years. I've seen several in Ohio and West Virginia but I know they are in other states as well. Generally in an area where they spent generations living/passing through regularly.

Well, I finally had a little time yesterday afternoon to get back in the field and I found another little gem. I feel like a little boy, but the feeling that I get finding a nice arrowhead makes my day. The field was plowed early last week followed by about 2 days of hard, steady rain and I have been going crazy to get back out there. Although I only had time to make 2 trips down and back, I said a prayer that I would really like to find one on my birthday and next thing I know...[IMG]
I'm beginning to think that there was a little village or campsite on this hill in the field...all 4 that I have found have been within 50 yards on top of this hill. Going back tomorrow with the girlfriend

Nice BPH. Once I find a point, or an area with lots of flakes in it, I do a grid search.
Plowing and rain are a hunters best friends.

    Cool finds guys!
Are you sure that's petrified wood? It looks more like rose quartz.

We went to the local Museum in Utah and that's what they said it was made out of. I was kinda stunned to but I did see other petrified wood artifacts there and it matched.

I've never thought about looking for them on Ebay..but I just did and I cannot believe how cheap they're selling for. Not that I would ever buy any but arrowheads are some cool stuff for a really cheap price; 50 piece for $10? I would never sell mine. Do you think they're making them or really found them?

This afternoon while my girlfriend and I were looking arrowheads behind the house, we found what we thought was a bone. Upon returning home and rinsing it off, we decided that it wasn't. What could this be? Shaved edges, a perfectly symmetrical hole the size of a drinking straw, and another hole on the other side the size of a ballpoint pen, (unfortunately, she didn't take a picture of this but I will have her send me one later today and upload it). I have an idea of what it could be but I'm interested in your opinion before I say anything.
