Spring 2014 was my first time ever attempting a plot. Between you guys, countless internet articles and hours of YouTube, I'm finally learning the ropes. About a month ago, I sprayed and killed off all of the weeds that took over my spring plot, cleared it out with my hands and a garden rake, leveled it again the best I could with a pick axe, applied 80lbs of lime and finally got around to sowing my seed with half of a 10-10-10 bag of fertilizer last Thursday (9/18). I think the weather has been perfect; it rained the same day I put the seed down and one more time about 2 days after and it has been in the mid 70's-80 every day since. Here is a little of the progress I have made so far and I am super excited how its looking after only 6 days. The plot is 31 yards by 16 yards

Looks like it started well and you did excellent field prep. What did you plant?

Whitetail Institute No Plow and mixed some oats and peas. I'm not sure how the oats and peas will do since I simply just put them on top of the ground with everything else, but we'll see

Good job. I love me some kill plots! You'll love hunting over it. Comes with a little bit of extra satisfaction.

I sure hope so, I thought I was going to die the next morning after swinging a pick axe half the day before.

But so far, you're right, it has been worth it. I don't have many properties to hunt and the ones I do, I don't have any fields so I just made do with a little hard work

The progression of the plot in a months time. I put some corn along the left edge to help them find it but they're obviously more interested in that than the plot itself. Hopefully as the leaves start to fall and the acorns finally go away I'll get some action
