Happy Obama Day. Now, I may not have voted for the guy, but I must say that its an exciting day. I don't envy his position, what with all the expectations that have been lain on his shoulders. My hope is that he can bring some change in Washington, maybe get some people to work together and attempt to actually do their job. The election didn't go my way, but I did my part and voted (as indicated by the "I voted" sticker in my Avatar). Now I will continue to do my part and Pray for our new President. Pray for his wisdom. Pray for all of the Congress and the House. Pray for our Troops. And Pray for our country. God Bless you all and God Bless America!
I agree. For all our sake I hope he performs well. For now I have taken the position of hope for the best.
Don't get me wrong.. I want the dude to be great. The country could really use great right now. In fact.. I want him to be better than great. But.. his following seems ill deserved. Almost as though people believe he's some sort of messiah. Which is scary. Especially since he's never done anything.. nothing. Just a short termed senator from the most corrupt state in the US. Nothing. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills while watching the weeks events unfold. It almost just seems to good to be true. Not that he's our president (i voted for that other guy).. but that he has so much hope behind him from the people who now cry for him.. welcoming him with open arms. Why? He's just a man. And what is there to cry for.. an elected official who now has a new and more important job. I don't think so. He works for us.. not the other way around. People cry for kings.. because they lead despite you... people shouldn't cry for whats expected of you. I don't know.. alot of craziness in DC right now. I guess I just don't understand why. Maybe I'll cry at his death 30 years from now.. but he'll have to deliver hope first. One more item.. if McCain.. a decorated service man.. POW.. who then served the country for more than 30 years as an elected official got elected.. would he have gotten such a reception? I doubt it.
I agree with you duke. I hope he does great things, but I don't understand why everyone worships him when, as you said, he hasn't really done anything yet.
I hear what you are saying Jeff. And I hope that by my original post you're not implying I was even bringing race into this. Because I wasn't. It has nothing to do with anything for me. It's irrelevant to me... but I just don't see the big deal in an UN-proven elected official. No matter WHO it is... until he or she proves themself worthy to me. That's my beef. YOU (elected official) work for me.. I'll cry after YOU get the work done.. not before.
It is historic.. however the mass hysteria bugs me too. There is no doubt he is viewed as a 'messiah'. I think it's great that a candidate isn't held back by skin tone. Tho' we may have been past it for awhile, there just hasn't been a serious candidate who wasn't white. We still have a gender barrier, but again, there's been a lack of good women candidates. I take exception to the idea that it was 'Hope and Equality' vs. 'Partisanship and Hate' in this election. So... watching this inaugaration, I'm hopeful too. Hopeful that Barack will not pass those things I believe will hurt this country. Hopeful that he doesn't not tear apart the 2nd amendment in the ways he has supported in the past. I am hopeful his years as President does not leave a more divided country.
I want his car. Is it just me, or does it look like Bentley/Maybach may have had a hand in design of this?
