I'm after another trail cam. After saying that I was done buying trail cams last year, I think I want another. I have 2 Cudde Captures that I'm pleased with and a Moultrie that is junk, along with 2 cheap, older Stealth Cams. I'm thinking about the DLC Covert 2, but would be open to suggestions of similar cams in this price range.
A few of the new Primos Truthcams look interesting. You might want to log onto www.chasingame.com to check out their reviews. Good luck and I predict this won't be your last camera purchase either. Blessings.....Pastorjim
I have 2 moultrie and i wont bother even putting them out anymore, waste of battery's and my time and gas money. My primos 46 is fine for a bait pile but is too slow for a trail cam nameplate, takes some time to come out of sleep mode.and has a loud click when it triggers, at it's( lower settings) the cam is easy on the d-cell batterys as long as you dont mind not getting many pics... mine worked well during testing at my home and took it to the woods.... 9 pics of me setting it up in the woods but then took 2 pics of deer in three weeks in the tree, I brought it home and reset the pir to high and it is working much better in my test. I brought it home and put new batterys in it and maxed out all the settings and i am retesting. so today i checked it after 3 days in my yard setting are 5.0 mp with three pic burst mode..full 46 ir setting 150 + pics good pic quailty, slow to trigger if you are walking by the cam, but battery life was down to 50 percent with this cam set to max settings new update: set cam to hi res video 30 sec clips and the cam shines in this mode.. very good and picks up about ten feet further out then in pic mode and took 30 vid's in one day and the new batts are at 70 percent and i am suprised that my 2 gb sd card was not full, this cam is going back out in video mode.for sure my guess is why the cam has a add on battery port so you can add some battery life but then more $$$ for the dollars$$ would be good cam for a salt pile, bait pile or mock scrape and if placed on down a game trail you may get some decent pics also it's a large box so if your going to put it down a game trail you might try putting it 7-9 foot up in the tree for more stealth approach with it's 46 bright ir lighting.this will easy for the deer to pic this cam off.
Check out my review of the x6c wildgame cam on this same site. I will say it's the only wildgam cam that i found that works but. It works well and has great battery life and works well as a trailcam. 119.99 here in mo at rural king farm store. I bought three they work so well. This cam is getting good reviews around the web, and they also sell it here on this site.
My Moultrie has been a waste of money too. Doesn't take pictures everytime, the screen goes in and out, only thing it's good for is the battery life.
Ultramax is right, the Wildgame X6C is a great bang for the buck. The reviews on chasinggame.com are also good. The only problems I have with this cam is that it doesn't have the option to take multiple shots mode. And it also has a relatively long minimum delay time of 30 seconds. Most moultrie delay times are 1 minute(there is a update for some models to obtain 30 sec delay), this is unacceptable aside for use at a bait pile. For roughly $100 the X6C is an awesome camera for the price and takes good photos and video. I would choose this over a moultrie any day of the week. Now for a GREAT CAMERA with good customer service. The scoutguard 560v(or earlier 550v model) has a remote viewer, 1 second(minimum) delay, 3-shot mode,(really not needed with the 1 sec delay) 5mp pnotos, video, compact size and good battery life. I am definately going to buy more of these in the future, these cameras don't miss ANY action with the 1 second delay and 50+ feet detection range. They can be had for roughly $200. Better then most cams with higher price tags.. Stay away from moultrie, they miss the action and I read in multiple forums that their customer service sucks. Check out the reviews on both cameras at chasinggame.com
Scott, check out the uway cameras. They are small and have some great features. I'll do a small review after I have had it out for a bit.
definantly get something with good battery life, I know alot of the trophy cams and others use the AA batteries. I'm gonna buy some new ones myself one of these days!
