I am now using a hand me down Browning, I dont have crazy money to spend so i would really like to stay under $400. I seen a Martin Archery Trophy Hunter at ****s sporting goods. Any feed back on them? I really like the look and feal of the Mathews just dont have the money. Not sure if I only seen the high end models or not or if they make any other cheaper ones? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I really dont want to spend the money on garbage and I have been out of the bow seen for a while. Thanks in advance
Matthews sell a less expensive lin of bows called Mission. Here is the url http://missionarchery.com/
also take a peak around local archery proshops, most of the time there are some pretty nice used bows for sale for decent price
You might also want to look for a used bow at archerytalk.com They have lots of good barely used bows with accessories there for a reasonable price. You will probably want to go to a local archery shop and shoot a couple new bows so you know how they shoot, than look for the same bow used. I shoot a diamond marquis and love it and have heard nothing but good things about them. You can usually find a used one for under $400 with some extras.
Do you have a Bass Pro anywhere near you. You can get Diamond boy, made by Bowtech, fully outfitted for right around 400.
IMO Bear Archery makes some quality bows for a fair price. However, some folks are gonna say: Hoyt, Matthews, Bowtech, I said Bear Archery, XYZ bow brand. These opinions are many. You mentioned Martin. Martin makes quality bows at a good price. There are alot of quality bow makers these days. I do think that everyone would agree on this idea. I'd recommend that you go to as many stores, archery pro shops and the like and shoot as many different bows as you can get your hands on. Resist the tempation to buy XYZ bow brand because someone else says it's the best bow they've every shot. Take your time, don't get rushed, maybe go back a 2nd or 3rd time and then pick out the bow that YOU feel, shoots the smoothiest, feels the best in your palm and has the performance and features that are within what you would like to spend. Make sense. I decided on a Bear Archery Instinct, because it felt and shot the best to me. I didn't have alot of dollars to spend either at the time. You can find a real dandy bow and outfitted with some nice equipment for $400 or less. May not be the latest and greatest, may not be the fastest, but sure will harvest a whitetail just the same. Hope you understand I'm not trying to preach to you. Just wanted to try and help. Just my 2 cents partner.
Sorry....One more thing. Welcome to BH.com's Forum Welcome by the way. I'm new here too. Great folks and very helpful.
you can a truth 2 bear bow on ebay right now for $329. for price and performance you can beat that with a stick.
Hey thanks iowa bow hunter. you are a 100 percent right! i just dont want to buy something and find out down the road its garbage. In jersey there are only a few local shops other than chain stores. i will definately hit them all thanks again
I just bought a new bow this weekend so here is what I found....oh and this is kind of a cabela's rant as well. I am new to bow hunting last season was my first and I borrowed my brother-in-laws old bear bow. Shot fine I guess but what do I know. Went to cabelas because I had $200 worth of gift cards and I kind of had a set budget in mind of what I wanted to spend. I pretty much already had in mind I wanted a Martin so I asked to shoot the Martin Cheetah, Bear Game Over (discontinued this year so they had a really good price on it) and the Diamond Rock. After shooting all three the Bear felt so much better in my hands and seem to have a smoother draw and the release was like silk. So I happened to find the exact same bow in the bargain cave that was brand new never been shot. I got the bow for $239.00 and now time for accessories. I bought sites, rest, limbsavers, stabilizer and had them install the peep, nock, and rest as well as adjust poundage and draw length......Here's were the rant starts......Me not knowing a whole lot left with what I thought was a bow that was almost ready to begin sighting in. Well once my b-in-law starting tuning and setting up we ran into a few problems. 1. They didnt even tighten the rest just threw it on there and they didnt anchor the pull string into bow string....just the top was tied in so very easily moves around. 2. Pulled the bow back when I got home and POW the d loop came untied.....thank god I didnt have an arrow loaded. 3. The draw length on bow felt really long.....hmmmmm lets see what its set at.....when they adjusted the dl he didnt put the set screw back in so I was pulling all 31" Needless to say I am calling manager today and having go back down there.....thinking of asking them to give me entire new bow due to the dry fire.....Not very happy with the service I received at all.....There's my .02 As far as bows just see what you like.
throwing out a random question matthews has mission bowtech has diamond does hoyt have a less expensive or however you would word it brand
That really sucks! I would make sure they take care of you this time around. I hope everything works out for you. C
The bow i use to shoot was a ridgid. It was my dads. I looked it up and it was only made from 1977 to 1979. Is it worth anything or should i toss it?
going to look at a used mathews ovation tomorow. any oppinion's? anything I should look for? Thanks again
