A big wooded area in the middle of a city, probably 2 miles x 2 miles. No human tracks seen off trails and plenty of deer. Would you put a trailcam up or is it too risky?
It could be fun and risky, if you set the cam up off the ground say 10-13 foot up that will get the cam above the line of sight from both deer and humans. I use a ez-cam mount and angle the cams here all the time. I use a small step ladder or climbing sticks. What cam are you going to use?
i was thinking about using one with a black flash so if someone was there at night (even though the area closes at 10) they wouldn't see the flash. Moultrie with a black flash?
A long range Black IR cam like scoutguard SG560K-8M fits the purpose perfectly. You can find it on Amazon/Ebay, or the following websites: http://www.camera4life.com http://www.everest1stop.com With Long Range, you can mount the camera really high to the tree top, even if a human sees it (unless he spends a whole day to look for it), he is going to only sigh about it.
You are welcome. You may also want to check out a review from a Finlan user: English Translation: http://translate.google.com.hk/tran...1/takapihakokeilut-scout-guard-sg560k-8m.html Finish Language: http://www.tapiolantakamailla.com/2012/01/takapihakokeilut-scout-guard-sg560k-8m.html
If you look at some of the cam review sites the moultrie black is not getting great reviews but i find that the overall range of any black flash cam falls short of what we have gotten used to on reg ir and strobe flash cams. I do set mine closer to the trail or game that i would on my other cams, and there are black flash extenders on the market now. I bush all my cams in anymore because there are too many people in the woods this time of year with shed season and turkey season coming up. good luck
Thanks for the heads up on the black flash. I bought a CHEAP $21 WGI 1.3 MP camera and put it up deep in the woods away from man made trails. Hope I have pics to show soon.
Just a bunch of does. Didn't leave it out there much more than a day, but there's plenty of deer around. I set the camera, walked a ways and came back. The time stamps actually said that a few deer ran by in the 10 mins I was gone. I only got daytime pics, I wonder if the deer are actually not nocturnal in the city?
Put that camera back out deeper into the woods, thought I'd get even more pics with a lick set up across from it. The weather got nice and the lick ended up attracting a lot of people. Saw 8 different people in this area that I thought no one would be. At least they didn't take it. Don't put your camera up in the city unless its cold...
