Honestly there are a few that I like. I don't know Winke, but sure like the shows the information that you get out of them. Think he does a good job talking about the actual pursuit of a deer rather than just a guy in a tree... shoot the deer, smile for the cameras and thank the sponsors. I also love the Heartland show and of course the BHOD crew. Very few of us wouldn't kill to be in the shoes of most of these folks in one way or another. Growing big deer, traveling to shows to talk about hunting and Hunting for a living seems alright by me. Of course there is a ton of work behind the scenes. I think a lot of these shows and personalities probably started off with the best of intentions. But I think the industry pressure to produce and kill big deer on camera is pushing many of these folks into territory thats borderline absurd. As for Brackett, sorry, he's been a toolbag since the day I laid eyes on him and he's been proving that opinion on a regular basis.
I rarely watch any hunting shows anymore but when I do it's usually Jim Shockey's shows. I would add that Bill Winke has long been my favorite deer hunting writer (magazine articles).
well, you know, there is a reason why there are no dedicated traditional archery shows....it is not a slam dunk kill even on the best property. It won't sell a product either. Ask the Wensel brothers how hard it is too be promoted using a recurve!
Brackett is a tool and has been a cancer to the hunting industry for far too long. I have personally spent some limited time around him at various hunting events and I was not impressed. I also know a lot of people who know him, including one former camera man (not involved with the two videos that surfaced the other day) and nothing ever good is said of Chris. The hunting TV industry needs to be blown up, torn down, and put back together. I personally know too many people in the industry directly or through other industry friends ... and trust me ... Chris isn't the only one who will break the law, violate decent morals, and throw ethics out the window in the name of getting something killed on camera. When your mortgage, truck payment, and even grocery bill are solely dependent on putting down giant buck after buck on camera, or piles of waterfowl, or 5 or 6 turkeys in a spring ... a man (or woman anymore) will entertain the idea of doing a lot of questionable things that a regular Joe hunter would never think of doing. When your lively hood is on the line, the game changes ... usually for the bad. I've spent the better part of 10 years playing in the hunting industry and I thank my lucky stars every day that my income is not and never will be based on hunting or putting down video footage for a pay check. That being said, there are a few good guys out there. But in reality ... ALL of us hunters have a skeleton or two in our closet. We might have shot a bird over the limit a couple of times. We might have taken orange off in the stand. We might have tracked a deer into property without permission. We might have shot across a property line (even if it only was 5 yards). We might have pulled the trigger for a youth (I actually had someone send me video footage doing this and didn't understand why I got mad at him when I did the edit). We might have shot that deer 5 minutes before legal time. We might have ............................. Good bye Chris ... please don't come back.
A few people in the Bible questioned Jesus, but got saved in the end and followed his ways later. I don’t try to write someone off cause they have failed several times. You should forgive but can’t forget.
Personally I enjoy watching Major League Bowhunter, one of my favorites. I don’t watch hunting shows anymore. I rather live hunting, than sit home watching it.
Steven Rineilla, Donnie Vincent, Jim Shockey and Cam Hanes. I like people that are thankful for a harvest instead of "I blasted that b$%#!" Probably some I missed, but I don't get any hunting channels. These guys seem to represent the present and future of hunting in a positive way. Doesn't hurt that they are all connected to western hunting. Cam Hanes is just an inspiring person for what he does on a daily basis physically. The other three I really enjoy their shows or videos. All have good personalities that fit me. These are the individuals that I follow on social media. Chris Bracket has always come off as arrogant. I've sadly enjoyed seeing these videos come out to expose the true colors of him. Had never watched any of his shows, but saw enough from the internet that he seemed to be too full of himself.
You guys should check out. The Hunting Public on youtubel, their public land series is awesome. I'm not a public land Guy but I will say I enjoy their hunts and strategies. Of course BHOD is also one of my favorites.
Yeah well there were no d-bags like chris in the bible. Plus I believe Jesus would say what's up with the beard, sideburns, and hair cut Chris you look like a stool specimen.
Scarps put out a great list. Im not a huge fan of Rinella, but I couldnt really identify why. For the most part, though there are some awesome hunting figures, such as Cam and the others mentioned.
I haven't watched a TV outdoor show in years. I recognize many of the names being thrown around in this thread, but there are a few I don't recognize. I do watch YouTube a lot though. I grew up renting Dan Fitzgerald hunting videos from a local archery shop. I was in my early 20 ' s and was always excited to rent the newest release, get home to watch it. I subscribe to many You Tube channels and have a few favorites I watch religiously. Recently, I've had a strong addiction to watching the new series from Born and Raised Outdoors. Love the up front honesty these guys seem to be. This new series of them hunting elk in 5 states in 50 days is out of this world. I've never hunted elk but these videos make me wish I had. As for Chris Brackett, I saw him several years ago and disliked him the first time I saw him. I remember thinking how badly he portrayed hunting and thinking of the damage he was doing to our image. Now here we are today. Sent from my SM-S902L using Tapatalk
Born and raised outdoors is good too. Guys elk hunting public land and not only shooting record bulls. Good call. I have several of their dvds. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
After watching Donnie's films, I was amazed at the class used in making his films. This is the guy that inspired me to make my own films that I only share with family and friends. I love that there is no "chest pounding" in his films. Most hunting shows should take a hard look at what the likes of Donnie Vincent, Jim Shockey, Cody Robbins and the Holder Family have done to bring class to hunting shows.
Amen....sadly, this generation of hunters has been misled and I feel sorry for them. Heck, many of them miss the big picture...literally, they don't realize that they have just witnessed a sunrise on cold fall morning from the tree....I can't think of a better picture. All they can think about is inches, scores, and FB likes...
Indeed I like Camerons look on life not to mention he is one bad MF'er just complete the moab 240 He definitely has dedication on whatever he is doing.
Nobody better in my opinion. I spend a lot of my time on the forum. I would love to attend one of his scouting workshops and meet him in person.
Looking at this from a different perspective, these people also get discounts on bows, arrows, stands, game cameras, and other expensive equipment. That could be enough compensation for someone to do what they already love doing which is filming bowhunts. Also, they are given a platform to put out their work and see what they can do. If they are good enough, they can venture out on their own like Aaron warbritton and Zach Ferenbaugh did. All these people know what they’re signing up for when it comes to monetary compensation. It doesn’t seem slimy to me at all.
I agree....I think they understand what they are getting into, and if they don't, they should have done their research.
I really like Randy Newberg. He is not a bow only guy, but he is a strong public land advocate. He also works really hard to help other hunters get on quality animals. I am a little partial because we are both from the same area in Minnesota, and now live in Montana.
